That's like taking a handgun course and saying, "other than occasional flesh wounds". You only get a certain number of "grinds" loose a few teeth and watch the problems begin and quickly.
I've never ground anything on a downshift, Ghost. I was referring to being off maybe a few hundred RPMs on the rev match, which doesn't cause me anything catastrophic. Yes, I imagine it's causing some undue wear on the clutch, but I would think it's less than if I were to downshift, let the revs drop, and slowly slip the clutch out while all the mechanicals get in sync with each other for several seconds. My occasional grind only happens on the 1-2 shift, the only time it surfaces is if I try to be quick with said shift, and it's not consistent, nor has it increased in frequency. It rarely happens in my normal driving, as I learned to just take my time from 1-2 and then shift normally from there. I guess I can see how my statement could be misunderstood without some clarification. My suspicion is that it was already damaged prior to my ownership.

While I did get a chuckle out of your analogy, I would say it could be equated more to getting a slide bite from a slightly misplaced digit while holding your firearm rather than paraphrasing the Black Knight's lines from the business end.
