New owner of a 2002 Boxster S- should it beep?

Last saturday, I took delivery of a 2002 Boxster S. I've had 2 prior Porsches of the 944 series, but this is my first flat six Porsche. When I lock the car with the remote, the lights flash twice for lock, once for unlock. The day I was looking at it, I *thought* I heard it honk the horn when locking, but I'm not completely sure.

Anyway, the alarm does work. I unlock it with the key and the horn cries bloody murder. Am I doing it right? Thanks!

Oh yeah, and I would check my owners manual, but the dealer lost it and the replacement they ordered for me hasn't yet shown up.

Gratiuitous pics of my Boxster

If the horn beeps once when you lock it, that means that one of the sensors is detecting that something is not latched properly. It could be a door, the frunk, the trunk, or even the center console.

Finding the offending sensor and fixing it can be time consuming.

if the horn beeps when locking the car, it means something is not closed - the center console, one of the trunks...

it should not beep normally.

try the site search function for more details.

I actually wouldn't mind if the alarm "honked" when activating. Maybe something different than the notification that I left something open (a double honk). When I am walking away from the car, I would rather listen than look to see if the alarm is set.

Of course it is just one more chance to look at the beauty that is.......

If it helps...
My 2004 base beeps when I hit the lock button twice (always) followed by the red dash light glowing solidly for 20-30 sec. I always assumed that this was setting the alarm.

I also just purchased the porsche so I am just figuring things out as well. Perhaps assuming too much along the way.

I think that means you just turned off the motion detectors. On my 2000 base one press locks the doors and arms the alarm. There is no beep.

Hmm interesting my 2003 doesn't beep right away when single click lock....but then does a double beep about 10 seconds later....I always thought that was to prove it was locked... Is this wrong means something is bad?

The double lock does the sensor turn off as mentioned and I think does not beep...at least when's top is down...

kbiggar: double press deactivates the motion sensor, so if someoone is still in the car (like a pet) they do not set off the alarm. one press locks the car and activates the motion sensor.

mcomet: a double beep indicates a fault in the central locking system. it should be checked out and remedied.

Installed an aftermarket head unit in mine. As a result, I get a beep every time I lock it.
