I had just started getting into it last year about 3 months before I bought my Boxster. I was mainly just using it (Trek 7.2) for commuting, but when I bought my first convertible, that kind of ceased the bike riding thing.
Started up again this year though, but the weather in the Chicago area as of late is not good for a 280 pound person to be riding 20 miles a day. Next week looks to be nice.

Many years ago I was hiking and camping near Premier Lake BC about a 5 hour drive west of here. I talked to a cyclist/camper who had cycled from the US. Can't remember where he was from but he was hundreds(1000's ?) away from home. I was amazed at the distance he had covered. Another serious cyclist. Carrying camping gear etc. makes it even more impressive.

Wilier Guy
Like my cars ( 4 German) I've always had a thing about Euro bikes, generally Italian. Something about the engineering and the history. Sound familiar? Replaced my Bianchi/Chorus last year with a Wilier Cento 1/Record. Incredible bike. For the $, it should be as I could have bought a good used Box' for the same price . My wife still gives me crap about it. You only live once I say, and if this keeps me alive and fit, I say the tradeoff is well worth it
The new generation of carbon framesets ( even those made in the Far East) are all very good to excellent. Somehow, they seem to do the impossible; create stiff, very lightweight, yet comfortable and compliant rides. Great for both flying up hills and hours of long-distance touring. And they're a lot more durable than the Gen 1 or Gen 2 carbon frames. Less expensive too overall.
I just wish I had more time to ride. With work, other hobbies (cars, plus other , the family, etc.) I just never have enough time to ride. At best I can get on the road 2-3 days/week with another day of indoor spinning. And that's only for 6 months. The other six we're usually buried under the white stuff.
I used to take regular, annual week long touring trips out West with a few cycling touring companies (Rockies, Cascades, Cali coastal range routes). Tough, but great fun. Also did a 10 day ride in the Scottish Highlands. Beautiful country , but it rained like a b**ch the whole time.
I gotta get to Italy and ride before I go.....

Johnny Danger following up on the issue of the cycling forum/site that I was working on . Well, it just launched, and I thought that I would post a link as promised . Hopefully some of you will join, and pass the word onto some of your cyclist friends .**** Feedback would be greatly appreciated .

I see a category for Racing but did not see Beach Drag Racing in the list? Why not??
At first glance I think you need to get some photos on the site, I assume you are leaving some of that up to Advertisers?

The site literally launched just a couple of hours ago . Things are still a little rough around the edges. I have some advertisers lined up, and their ads are waiting to be coded in .

I spent the better part of 26 years (my first road bike at 14) chasing down every hill I could find in Colorado. There are a few of them.
I can honestly say that I loved every minute of it. Well, except for the idiots who yell at you, honk at you and throw things at you. This is seriously not a stereotype, they almost always are driving pick-up trucks. I averaged a couple thousand miles a season. But age and the 90-100 rpm cadance has caught up with me and my knee can't take the abuse any more.
It's a little heart wrenching every time I see a group of cyclists go by.

1500 miles so far this year. Wish I had a bike rack on the Porsche.

Used to be fairly serious, but that was back in the days of Eddy Merckx.

I think this is more a function of my Boxster not really being worth very much (and I am exaggerating a little)...
I'm on a Serotta (built up with Campy and Enve wheels). I am looking for a new rig, maybe a Parlee or Calfee.
I ride about 7,000 miles a year which is about the same that goes on the Boxster.

I have a 2008 Cannondale Six13. I put on about 50-75 miles a week on it. Just did a 20 mile ride on it yesterday. I love riding!

Did anyone notice that Cancellara's bike for stage 2-6 was speed yellow?
