Another Motor Mount Question

There has been many discussions concerning the new and revised 987 motor mount superseding the older 986 design. here is a pic for comparison:



Well, I decided to spent $20 each for the newer style motor mount stops. I am glad I did; it appears that Porsche redesigned, and hopefully improved, the stops in a substantial way as well.



Now, the question is, which side is which? Does the rubber side go on the outside and the foam on the inside, or vice versa?

I mounted my cushions so that the rubber side faced the mount. I assume that you want the rubber facing the part that is likely to come into contact with it.

Your first picture shows the mount but no aluminum housing. Did you push it out?

Its the first I have heard of these mounts. Interesting. Obviously I have NOT been under my car but the parts are in the garage and ready to go (when I am of course).

Well, the stop gets sandwiched between the mount and the carrier, where otherwise there would be metal to metal contact when the rubber bushing flexes too far. So, I am still not clear on how the hybrid stop is supposed to make a difference.

As for the bushing in the pic, I only bought the bushing from Pelican and pressed it in. It worked out OK only because I have a 10 ton, shop grade, hydrolic press at home. Otherwise, it would've been impossible. Without a press, or even with a cheapo version from Harbor Freight, one shouldn't attempt it. It's a pretty hard push.

Yes, the part that actually moves relative to the cushion is the engine mount. The chassis is static relative to the cushion, so that side would see compression. The other side could see some sheer as well, thus the rubber face.

Hi - you show a picture of the motor mount stops in your post. I called the dealer and all they have is the old stops 986 375 255 01. I am replacing my motor mount and have the -05 new style one that you have pictured and as you pointed out the old ones don't fit. Do you have the part number for the new stops?

Is the new 987 Side Spacer the same thickness as the 986 one?

The new one: 9A137525701 - This seems to be 987 Boxsters
The old one is: 98637525501 for the 986 Boxster
