Best OEM Boxster color
Most cars out there have one or two colors, that are either rare and sought after, or just the most favorable color the car came in.
I am curious what other 986 owners think the most sought after color for these cars are? Just exterior color, no interior stuff. |
Guards RED
|
I think Viola Metallic is probably the most rare color.
|
When the car's were originally made (986), artic silver was probably the most popular and common (it was a no cost option I think too) and I guess that somewhere around 50-60% of boxsters are some shade of silver. Lapis blue seems to be another somewhat common color IME. If I was going to pick a color based on what I would want, it would be speed yellow or rainforest green.
|
I have to agree strongly with Guards red or I wouldn't have bought one. I also like the aqua blue metallic.

Speed Yellow and Blue (Pastel like color).
|
i love my seal grey. I'm more of a white car guy, but i really don't care for the 986's in white, so seal grey is the next best in my eye.
|
I have to say that black is the best color only because mine is black. Devilish to keep clean. If I have a choice it would be some kind of blue or BRG(Brit rac. green). Yellow or bright red shouts "look at me". There is no wrong color as the Boxster looks good in any color!
Actually BRG would be the best but I would think that it is not OEM. |
Any shade of silver is appropriate because of the history of German Racing Silver. But for my money, it's gotta be Guards Red.

There is no best color but Guards Red is definitely the FAST color. ;)
|
white (any shade)...always & forever more
|
Guards Red. I also like the slightly darker shade of red (don't remember the color name).
|
Viola metallic! Hehe
|
I know I'll get it for this, but...I think red Boxsters look like cheap Miata's. I saw one in person and opted for Glacier White instead.
Sorry! Just my opinion. Of course, Glacier White IS the best, though. Just ask me. I used the scientific method to deduce this. :) I mean, just check out the sexy avatar...undeniable. |
I'm a Basalt Black Metallic fan myself since that what I own.
|
If I was prosperous enough to be able to order a new Porsche now (and @ A$150,000 before adding any additional cost extras, which I'm not), I would get Viper Green, gloss black wheels and black leather with silver stitching......
Now put that in your minds eye and smile !!! |
My first choice is Guards Red.
My wife's first choice is Aqua Blue Metallic. |

Any metallic paint, which includes arctic silver, is an option.
No charge for non-metallic paint like white, black, yellow or red. |
Speed Yellow , and Speed Yellow only !!!!!!!!!
|
I'm partial to my slate grey metallic paint. I haven't seen any other Boxsters in that color, only 911s. Anyone else have slate grey metallic out there??

Personally, I think the definitive colour combo for the 986 is an early 2.5 in silver with Boxster Red leather.
Guards does look great, too, which is why I chose it. I think the 986 looks great in a lot of colours, but it does need the amber indicators to work. The only colour I don't like on the 986 is dark blue, it's just so dowdy. |
Another colour I like is the relatively rare Meridian Silver.

GT Silver Metallic
|
Immediately after a wash and wax: black.
The other 99.999% of the time: speed yellow. |
Speed yellow... Or what about limited edition orange?
Probably neither are the most sought after...most Porsches I see out here are some sort of silver... |

Boxsters look sleek in black especially when cleaned and polished. I thought I was done with black cars but was seduced by a triple black. Is lingere black the factory color?

The best colour for a convertible is yellow. No arguments broached on this subject shall be tolerated. However, if you're asking what the most popular colour is, it's quite obviously silver. Just look at the classifieds. And if you look at 911s, it's almost impossible to get a secondhand 997 in any colour except black, grey or silver, at least in Australia. Rich people are pretty boring. |
Zanzibar Red has to be one of the rare ones. Very nice shade of red-orange.

2 weeks it will be done and I will post pics. I am doing all the work. I got to know the guy down the road with a paint shop and I learned a lot. He let me use his spray booth. This weekend, he is giving me a key to his shop so I can come and go as I please. Very cool! I am also painting the center console as well. ;) |

growing up i always loved the looks of Canary Yellow corvette stingrays and yellow 911s.
so when it came to my Boxster it had to be Speed Yellow. |

Slate Grey Metallic Clearcoat!!!!!!!!!
|
That Zanzibar color is cool, but not my taste.
I think im going to go with Speed Yellow if I pull the trigger. Nothing else appeals to me enough to spend 100+ hours painting my car. The thing I like most about this, Is there is no engine bay to paint! |
It was German Racing Silver ...
