This is a common 987 problem. I had my "fixed" twice under warranty. There is an elastic piece that stretches which is supposed to pull the top into the groove. It needs to be either sewn tighter, or have new elastic sewn in.

While waiting for my fix, I would close the top most of the way, "tuck in" the top, and finish closing. On the driver's side this can be done (carefully) by reaching back while seated. Obviously the passenger side is a bit more difficult to reach!
