Wheel bolt question

While cleaning the wheels i noticed that the bolts on the back rims sit flush in the holes.The front bolts seem to stick out a bit. Is this how they are supposed to be? I have 17 inch rims.

The standard oem bolt lug is a 28mm ball seat style . Assuming that you are using the correct bolts, they should all be seated the same way . Have you checked to make sure that they are all properly torqued down ?

Do the lug bolts have chrome caps or anything that would extend the hex portion of the bolt? Assuming they are seated correctly and are standard oem, Johnny is right. Your fronts will be basically flush on your 17's and the rears will be recessed due to the difference in width of the front vs. rear wheels.

I believe I had what you are describing on my base 2000. When I bought the car it had the OE 17" wheels and I don't remember anything unusual. In 2005 I bought a set of 17" wheels from a 2000 Boxster S and then noticed the front lugs stuck out some when compared to the rears which were more recessed.

I wasn't attempting to show this in these pics taken back in 2005 so they don't do a great job in doing so. But if you use your imagination you may be able to see the difference. The first pic is the rear wheel and the second one is the front wheel.

I bought a new set of 19" wheels in 2007 and sold both sets of seventeens.

What you are seeing is normal. The difference in the depth of the lug bolt between the front and rear wheels is due to the difference in wheel width. Since the lug bolts are a constant length, they sit more flush with the surface of the front wheel and are slightly recessed on the (wider) rear wheels.
