Unhappy PNP rear speaker installation

Hello,

I have Just finished the PNP rear speaker kit installation on my '01 boxster and I'll have to say I am somewhat underwhelmed! This kit sounds lifeless and weak!

I have the CDR220 with the optional amp...

Is there something I forgot?
Perhaps a setting or something?

Thanks,

Steve

I had the same experience :ah:
I am assuming that you followed the instructions and feed the rear speakers directly from the back of the CDR 220?
My next step was to upgrade to a 6 channel amp from a 996 - with not much improvement
The speakers finally came to live after I threw out the CDR 220 and upgraded to a new after market head unit where the built in amp had enough umpff
Now the front and rear speakers are driven by the new head unit and only the door speakers are driven by the amp in the frunk (with a pre amp in the middle)

I have a 2001 Mazda truck which makes the Boxster system sound really sad!

For the money, you're better off buying much better speakers and amp/headunit from your local car audio shop or online. You'll be way happier....

Sonicelectronix.com, Great website, has everything and LOTS of independent reviews.... And they're great guys and will always stand behind their products... Good luck

Mine is all stock and sounds great. Examine all your settings and see if you need to make adjustments.

My experiance was the EXACT same process as ChrisZang above. Final solution was aftermarket headunit (with internal amp) driving front and rear speakers. Door woofers are driven via the stock amp connected to the subwoofer preamp output of the headunit. I have full fader and bass control now.

The PNP kit is well known for simply "rounding out" the front to rear sound balance and won't add any real kick to the overall system.

Do you have rear speakers? Or get by just on the dash + door?
