Depends upon the car and how it is used (or abused). Usually, changing it between 35 and 45K miles seems a safe bet for a daily driver (yes, I know that is well short of the recommended distance). Like all lubricants, the OEM full synthetic gear oil will break down with both miles and time, so a garage queen that does not see a lot of miles; I would drain it around every 5-6 years, just to be safe.
