Boxster that looks like Cayman?

Maybe others have already noticed this but I was on the Porsche site looking at the build your car section when I noticed the strange looking doors and transition from doors to rear panels on the Boxster, then I noticed they look just like the Cayman picture...what's up with these pics I'm guessing the aren't even real.

A Cayman is nothing more than a Boxster with a hardtop, didn't you know that? Or am I missing something from your post?

As stated above, the Cayman is a hardtop Boxster. Essentially they are a Boxster Roadster and Coupe, with minor differences. Just like the Boxster and the Carrera (until recently) share most of the same front end panels back to the front doors.

I was surprised (pleasantly) to see the Boxster spyder beat the Cayman R in this month's excellence. I was under the impression a hard top was always more rigid and more "race worthy". Seems the spyder proves that wrong. I'm not sure how I'm going to like a bigger boxster, I truly like the 986 to this day but the spyder is looking pretty good or maybe even my first "S" version of a Porsche, after all there are a lot more Boxster S cars to choose from.

the only difference i see (besides the top) is the boxster seems to be saying "whEEEE" whereas the cayman seems to be saying "oHHHHHHH"...

au contraire, mes freres. the whip is correct, porsche has photoshopped a roof off of a cayman. the 987 and the cayman DO differ at the rockers and side intakes. the cayman has the 'hockey stick' with the rocker sweeping up behind the side vent, while the boxster has the side vent flush and the rocker straight across.

good eye, mr. whip, and poo poo to the rest of you.

well that was a little misleading in that they raced the cars on a karting track.
I'd like to see both around Monaco or Laguna Seca.
But the fact that Boxster Spyder drove like a kart with 300+ hp is a selling point unto itself.

How about we do it this way, again using Porsche's site and some real images:

Personally, I'm not seeing what The Radium King was pointing out, because to me aside from the differences in the nose, side vent slots, and the raised spoiler lip on the Cayman, I'm not seeing enough of a difference of note that suggests that the Cayman image was shopped to make the Boxster image in the Build section.

Can you help me out, Radium?

EDIT: I re-read and saw what you mean about the "Hockey Stick" on the Cayman. So yes, poo poo on us indeed.

The difference is all between the door and the rear wheel, other than that they are the same.

Thank you, I was concerned I was the only one noticing the photoshopping! As is clearly seen in the pics Overdrive posted there is no hockey stick. I actually kind of like the photoshopped boxster

I've owned my Cayman for 8 months (so I now have both) and never noticed the difference, but Whip and Radium are correct - there is a difference between the Box and Cayman.

Wonder what else I'm missing in life?

perhaps porsche is outing the next boxster, bringing it in line with the cayman's styling.

I like that "Hockey Stick" flare on the Cayman. I always thought it would look good on the Boxster. I guess Porsche just wanted to make them a little different. I think the Cayman is the perfect coupe. It just needs 400 HP.

When I first saw the site I thought the exact same thing...I was like oh oh someone put the wrong picture up. I had seen some spy pictures of the new Boxster and it has the big intakes starting at the front of the doors all the way back. Then since I am in IT I realized it was just one of the website people taking liberty on how he/she thought the image would look best.

Which is weird, why would the web designer go through the trouble of using a Cayman image, remove the top and add the Boxster front bumper. I think maybe we might be seeing the next Boxster

High-Low, you are messing with my head...did you photoshop the wheels the same?

not saying it's not photoshopped - just seems a little weird to go to all the trouble instead of rolling in a different car and taking the picture.

Yeah, I made the wheels the same just to emphasize the similarities.
