2012 Boxster Photos

2012 Porsche Boxster snapped totally undisguised

I won't lie, I'm a bigger fan of the 986 styling than the 987, I like this even less.

The hood looks shorter. The side intakes now dominate the profile, I'm not sure if I'm a big fan of that. Looks like bumperettes are gone from this and the 911.

Notice how small the guy looks in the car. It looks like all of the styling features are scaled up to make the bigger car look smaller.

I noticed the scale of the guy as well. I'm not really sure where the styling is going. Definitely need to see it in person.

Agreed on style points reduction when compared with the excellent Boxster Spyder lines. The prospect of a 2.5L, 4cyl, properly developed turbo platform did stimulate my salivary glands though.

I wonder if the side air intake will actually provide some positive pressure to the engine air intake.

I don't mind the hood or the side scoops - but is it just me, or does the rear quarter view remind anyone else of the Mitsubishi Eclipse? I hate that car, as Cumberford said it looks like frog spawn....

Of course, he was disappointed as hell with the 986 after having expectations raised with the stunning show car in 1993.

I like it...alot.

The side scoop indent is reminiscent of the Carrera GT and it makes the car look more aggressive and wider. The spoiler line wrapping around into the rear lights is a nice touch too. It is more mature in terms of styling and a logical progression. I think good things will be happening for the Cayman as well.

Someone said this might be the baby boxster instead of the 2012 boxster...

Liking the look but hate the wing that's cutting into the tail lights... yuck.

The two guys selling the "turn your Boxster into a Carrera GT at home" fiberglass body kit on Ebay will be suing the **************** out of Porsche once they see this. Wow I call that an EPIC fail of creativity. Recycling 8 year old ideas? Really??

That thing is ugly. Looks like an old Toyota MR2 to me.

Likes:
  • Front end design
  • Front hood slope
  • Rear end design
  • Rear spoiler bisecting rear lights
  • Rear diffuser
Dislikes:
  • Painted seat backs
  • Huge wheels
  • Enormous side intakes
  • Windshield rake too low
  • Could use slightly more wheelbase
Overall, I'd send it back to the designers to be fixed.

Hum...I can't tell for sure, would like to see it in person. Is that guy a jockey? I thought I was a little dude. Can someone please Photoshop the Toyota doors out and the spoiler out of the tail lights PLEASE and post it back. You know Boxster always did take funky pictures from certain angles.

One other thing, in some of the pictures the rims look bigger in the back and then in others they look bigger in front!

+1 That was my first thought. I also don't care for the spoiler cutting across the tail lights. JMHO

If that's the baby, I'd hate to see how big the mother is!

HAhahahahaha!!!

In other thoughts....

Many other automakers (ahem, this means you Audi and BMW) tend to grow their models in size over time so they can slowly sneak in new models. They both moved their 3-series and A4 models up in size and now have the 1-series and A3 filling in the gap they left. The only thing about this that gives me hope is that eventually the "E30 M3" returned in the latest 1 M coupe. However, making the 3 bigger at least gains you something, more room. What does growing the Boxster do? It makes room for a smaller baby boxster, but what is the size differential for other than a motor? I'm confused.

It definitely borrowed from the CGT door lines, personally, till we add the forum touches I think the stock cars took a bit tame.
