I dont remember what the quotes were that I was given back a year ago, though I do recall the price difference between a new Boxster engine and a new Carrera engne was only about $1500 different. When you actually think about it if it were to come down to buying teh new engine upgrading to a Carrera engine probably would make sense. It is a significant increase in base HP. instead of the 220 hp on the 2.7 l engine the 3.4, I think, has about 300-320 hp stock. So really it is a better base t start off with for obvious reason.
My feeling is dont bother replacing it unless you absolutly have to. if it ever comes to me wearing away my 2.7 L , then I can see going for the upgrade.
