2000 boxster. Considering replacing the dash speaker with the same stock. Is it a easy task to replace? any tips/suggestions?

I have tried replacing the speakers on the dash, apparently the actual speaker it self is mounted along to the grill, which means If I replace the speakers, it would fall right through without anything holding it in place. To replace it, you would have to modify the mount to hold your new speakers with the factory grill.

Try to unscrew the grill, and you will know what I mean...

Not an easy task, Porsche always make things complicated.....

Stock speakers are 0.75" tweater and 4" midrange (if you have the sound pack), or a plain 4" all rounder on its own. Thy are poor Nokia made paper units.

Easiest replacement is from MB Quart - they do a similar set up with polycarb cones for about $60.

After that, nmost units are 1" tweater which will fit but you need a bit of work with a Dremel. You need to use hot melt glue or epoxy to mount anything beyond the MBQs to the stock grille, or make your own mounting plate with mdf using the stock grille as a template.

From hard experience, I suggest keeping away from hot melt on anything that will be exposed to hot sun especially in a dash or window area... they don't call it hot melt for nothin'...
