"I've heard about who had RMS failure and all the Boxsters I hear about with new engines in them."

Herein like the problem., ie no data available. We think there is an issue but without data, we really don't know.

And if we had data, what would we compare it to? In other words, what is the standard for RMS failures vs what the Box is experiening.

hmmm! :ah:

As for reliability, I referred to the Consumer Reports ratings for cars and on the whole the Boxster is decent. Average - which these days isn't toooo bad. There was even one year that was above average reliability. And I figure the CR subscribers are more level-headed with their product surveys, considering that they are stakeholders in the quality of the magazine.

I used to own a used 1992 Mercedes 190. What a lemon! Even the owner of the Mercedes/BMW repair shop told me that most Mercs were unreliable. He only recommended the Merc V8s. Come to think of it... I DID see lots and lots of Merc mechanics everywhere. Now why would there be a repair shop on every corner? I guess its good business!!

So far my 2002 B with Tip is trouble free, except a few minor cosmetics. I bought it 3 months ago, so I admit I wish I had its entire repair history. I'm heading in for the 30k service soon. Cheers!
