The sport bike will not be my only mode of transportation. I am going to keep my 944 until I get settled in and the bike paid for then sell it for another car. I'm also more than likely moving to FL in a year. So I will not be in Indiana for much longer. I'm not looking the "race replica" bikes like the gixxer or the RR. I am looking at the Yamaha R6 and Kaw ZX-6R which have a less agressive riding position.

Race The 944!, its the only big thrill you'll have left when your old like Paul Newman. He placed 3rd last in a Grand Am race at Lime Rock(in the rain).
His car number was 78 because that was his age! he couldn't climb out of the window on his own but still made it to the podium over those young 25 year old guys. The sportbike is a phase(risky one).

I have a Boxster and a GSX-R.

All around fun factor...the GSX-R takes the cake hands down.

Practicality, the Boxster.

Don't get me wrong, the Boxster is fun as hell in the canyons, but the bike is 10x more fun. Acceleration...I won't even bother explaining that one.

Just depends what you are looking for. It's literally..."do I want a car or a bike?" We're comparing apples to bridges on this one.

R6 is every bit as much a race bike than a CBR600-RR or GSX-R 600. Just look at how many Yammies race AMA supersport - they look good to win a championship this year.
