More Ignition Switch Problems

A couple of weeks ago, I reported a problem with my ignition switch that most responders felt the problem would be the plastic VW/Audi part. I finally got around to pulling the switch this morning (I'm getting better at it only took a few minutes this time). The problem I found is that the key does not turn anything. The male end piece (that operates the plastic piece) is stuck in the run position and key turns freely from off to on.

So I'm ordering the replacement assembly, ie the metal part that mounts to the steering column. Has anyone on the forum done this job themselves? If so, anything to watch out for? I assume if you reuse you original key tumbler there is no recoding required?

Thanks in advance for any input.
