axle nut question

this may seem like a stupid question and i apologize in advance if you can't stop laughing...

i need to replace a cv boot and all of the write-ups say not to reuse the axle nut. okay, but none of the dealers ( 4 ) in the area have them and online the $3 nut costs $15 in shipping...

so my question - is there something special about the nut or is it a generic / standard nut?

Garage
It is special.

It has a special washer on it to ensure that the torque is properly distributed and that the nut is tightened to the proper spec.

If they are cheap, buy all 4 and be ready.

thanks everyone.

i had to run to the office this afternoon and decided to stop at the porsche dealer near there. it turns out they happened to have 2 left so i picked them up.

i think i may have purchased the last two in the MD/DC/VA area, as the dealers in arlington, rockville, tysons and baltimore were all out of stock every time i called.

The last ones i've seen are a one piece design. (ie, no washer)
