axle nut question

this may seem like a stupid question and i apologize in advance if you can't stop laughing...

i need to replace a cv boot and all of the write-ups say not to reuse the axle nut. okay, but none of the dealers ( 4 ) in the area have them and online the $3 nut costs $15 in shipping...

so my question - is there something special about the nut or is it a generic / standard nut?

alot of fastners now days are meant to be used once...some for stretch TTY some cuz they have "special" locktite on them...some fastners arent suposed to be removed by impact gun ...so can you reuse it ? yes...until the new one comes in

It is special.

It has a special washer on it to ensure that the torque is properly distributed and that the nut is tightened to the proper spec.

If they are cheap, buy all 4 and be ready.

thanks everyone.

i had to run to the office this afternoon and decided to stop at the porsche dealer near there. it turns out they happened to have 2 left so i picked them up.

i think i may have purchased the last two in the MD/DC/VA area, as the dealers in arlington, rockville, tysons and baltimore were all out of stock every time i called.

The last ones i've seen are a one piece design. (ie, no washer)
