Discount from MSRP on 987

Several of you have written to me on the issue of 987 pricing. I hear that most dealers at sticking to MSPR on the 987s.

If you are SERIOUS about buying, I can assist you in getting a discount off MSPR from my local Porsche dealer. If you are SERIOUS, pls send me a private message and I will make the connection for you.

I get no dough on this, only the satisfaction of helping our forum members.

If you want a used Box, I can help you there too!

Thanks

Rich,

I started a thread in the Rennlist 987 forum about negotiating room. The consensus there was that $3k to $4k discounts were to be had, depending on circumstances. The biggest discounts seemed to be on S's in the northeast. Obviously, any help you can give in getting a discount would be most appreciated by those seriously considering a 987. Thank you for the offer.

As for me, after much thought, I am probably going to upgrade my 2000S to a 2003S (warranty, cup holders, glove box, glass rear window, 8 extra hp) and wait a couple of years to go to a 987. Let someone else take the initial depreciation hit.

eslai 03-08-2005 04:57 PM

I ordered a new Boxster S from the local Porsche dealership here in San Diego and they were willing to work with me on the price. A little bit, at least, nothing like I've been used to in the past with my previous purchases, but they weren't Porsches after all. And if you're looking for 2004 Boxster-like discounts, no dice right now.

I don't take delivery until May though. A difficult wait...

graybeard 03-10-2005 12:52 PM

Ordered '05 S 3 weeks ago and got about 6% off. I feel that is about right, here in the N.E., don't see why it's not the same elsewhere. I did have to shop around but in the end the local dealer seemed happy to meet the best price. Let them know you are serious up front and that you know what you are doing. A 100 or 150 miles is not too far to go to pick up your car, anyone of them will be glad to service it. May is a long wait for the one with your name on it, and then 2000 miles under 4000 RPM's, I'll go nuts

Good decision :)

For the two gentlemen who have just ordered their Boxster S, what options did you get?

I am ready to order mine in the end of this months, just have to work out the options and colors. I hope I can drive it in May or June. But I am not in a hurry. Six percents dicount appears to be pretty good. I hope I can get the same deal or close to it from my local dealer. If they don't, I will walk.

Later,

eslai 03-10-2005 08:05 PM

Well, graybeard kicked my ass. I only got $1500 off, although they say I can re-negotiate when the car arrives, but realistically they'll have me by the balls--I can always walk away then but...but...my baby's arrived, y'know? Besides, it'll be summer in California, yeah they're going to be having a hard time selling Boxsters then, uh huh... :p

Here's the options I ordered:

Seal Grey Metallic
PASM
Xenon headlights
Bose stereo
Heated seats
Sport Chrono

Pretty basic. My problem has been that every Boxster S that I've found so far has been fairly-well gussied up and priced around $70,000. I was trying to keep it around $60,000.

I couldn't even get them to throw in the floor mats. Quite a difference experience than the Mitsubishi dealership. :p

Brucelee 03-11-2005 04:47 AM

My guess is that you bought this a Pioneer Centres. Did I guess right?

PS when I sell my used Boxsters, they ALL come with mats. And mug and hat too!

eslai 03-11-2005 09:31 AM

I would expect a San Diego porsche dealer to know that little tidbit. :D

Any ideas on what Hoehn is offering? I didn't get too deep into talks with them.

You can't compare used market to new though--while it's well and good for you to say you offer mats, mugs whatever, it's a totally different playground. Used boxsters are a VERY affordable and VERY saturated market. Not to discredit you or anything, I'm sure anyone here buying from you would end up quite happy!

Brucelee 03-11-2005 11:47 AM

Thanks. I can tell you that Pioneer's margins are WAY higher than mine. For that, they could toss in some mats I would think!

underDAWG 03-12-2005 08:06 AM

Gentlemen, thanks for sharing your choices of option with me. Great selection by the way.

Here is what I am thinking to get for my first Porsche:

Boxster S with:

1. Preferred Package which includes: Wheel Caps with Colored Crest, Self-dim Mirrors and Rain Sensor, Heated Seats, Floor Mats in Interior Color. $2190.

2. Sport Chrono package which includes analog and digital chronometer, sport button in center console; also adds ability to adjust lighting, wipers, AC and door locking to suit personal preference. $920

3. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) which Includes active management of suspension firmness and a ride height decrease of 10 mm from standard suspension $1990

4. Windstop $ 375

5. Bose Surround Sound $950

I have not decided if I need Auto Climate Control or Bi-Xenon light. I don’t like blue tinted light and in my experience, it really bad for bad weather driving. However, I have not experienced the Porsche Bi-Xenon, so if anyone has the direct experience in driving in the snow or fog using these lights please share with me.

BTW on Page 86 in the Boxster Booklet, it states that auto climate control is standard in every Boxster. Apparently, it is not so.

The whole package comes to $61,020. When compared to 911, I think it is still a great bargain having such a well designed and balanced, well executed Porsche Driving Instrument. Yes, 911’s have a bigger engine and are faster. Since I have no desire to do track (no offend to anyone), it really do not have much good here in Delaware. I do enjoy an occasional high speed driving through the back country road in the middle of the night when it rains. ;)

Cheers

Hehehe...... At least you are close to NH and VT where the roads are made for a Porsche.

This might be new for 05. I have never seen one with manual controls for the CC.

prefferred package

you listed perffered package as an option @ 2195.00. Get the items separate save the bucks for taxes.

crested wheel covers 170.00
diming mirrors/rain sensors 690.00
heated seats 480.00
floor mats 115.00

the total comes in @ 1475.00

underDAWG 03-13-2005 06:26 AM

Thanks GB,

I will look into this. There are a few discrepanies between the porsche book and their website. I thought the preferred package also include the sound plus system too. Hey there is nothing wrong to save a few bucks for a couple minutes of my time. :)

Bruce,

The automatic climate control is a $550 option item listed in their book as well as in their website. I need to call up their friendly sales professional to clarify this. Thanks.

graybeard 03-17-2005 01:59 PM

Did you learn anthing about cc? test drove the 987S and the controls did not seem to be automatic, but then again a lot of new things to see, touch, hear (how sweet that was) and feel, it was quick. Seeing how I,m getting this option I'd be curious.

longislander1 03-20-2005 03:19 AM

When my salesman put the order in, the cc showed up as a $550 option, so I guess the brochure is wrong. He couldn't describe what it looks like, but I think the porscheusa.com site shows the standard controls in the photo section. There's an interior shot of the shift knob and just ahead of that, you see manual buttons and no screen like the auto cc has. The salesman told me -- and photo confirms -- that the heated seat buttons are integrated into this panel.

Brucelee 03-20-2005 06:02 AM

I have to say that if Porsche makes you pay for auto cc on a car of this price, it continues the practice they have had over the years of dinking customers who are alread paying big bucks for a small car.

Value wise, this pissers me off!

Yeap, Porsche has been known for stiffing their customers for options that should in there in the first place. Back in the 80's I wanted to buy the 944. But I found out that it did not have the ABS brake. They charged you for body molding and rear wiper and other insignificant items. They could have increased price of 944 by another $2,000. We ended up getting a BMW 325e. We still have the Bimmer. I am so glad that I used my big head instead my little head not to buy a 944.

We went to the Dealer yesterday, and indeed auto CC is not standard. I also complained to the Manager that their book and website contained numerous errors. I hope it is not a reflection of their quality of cars.

Does anyone know much their PASM? The manager advises me it is not necessary. Has anyone had direct experience with this option? TIA.

Later.

Brucelee 03-20-2005 07:01 AM

My son helped his boss buy a Cayeene. Seems that for nealry $80K, the dealer would not throw in FLOOR MATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

How sick is that?

I once bought a used Lexus and had the salesman throw in a $400 burl shift knob. He took it off the one in show room in about 30 seconds.

I bought a number of Lexus' from that dealership.

eslai 03-20-2005 09:42 AM

Yeah, I like to joke about how if you want a steering wheel for your Porsche, you can get it as an option... :p

There are a LOT of discrepancies between what's on Porsche's website and what's listed in the actual price guide that they use. For instance, the preferred package costs a lot more on the Boxster S than on the Boxster and I couldn't figure out why--you look at the list online and they both have the exact same options!

Turns out the preferred package for the Boxster S also comes with fully electric/motorized seats. Oh.

As far as I know, automatic climate control is an option, not standard. I didn't order it.

Please help

Greeting! I am currently in negotiation with 2 different dealers around Boston on a built-to-order Boxster S. Try as I may, but I am getting no where close to the 6% that some of you mentioned. Would you guys care to share which dealers are willing to deal at such discount? Thank you.

longislander1 03-23-2005 05:11 PM

I'm nowhere near Boston, but I ordered from Legend Autorama in Amityville, NY, on Long Island. Got 5.5% off and might have done better. Gary Ecker was a great salesperson. I can't offer any more info than that because I've never taken delivery or had a car serviced at this dealership before. Another local dealer was willing to take $2K off even before we talked seriously, but I won't recommend him because he kept me waiting an hour for a scheduled test drive. I walked out.

My policy is to walk away from dealers who want MSRP or more. There are few, if any, cars that are worth it, especially if you wait until the newness has worn off.

Brucelee 03-23-2005 05:14 PM

My advice is to email any Porsche will within 300 miles of where you are with a FIRM offer to purchase within one week of acceptance. This will likely work.

Let us know how you do!

No_Name 03-23-2005 07:15 PM

Thank you both. As it stands, I am a hair away from a $2,500 off sticker deal. I think I'll keep on looking for better deals then...

Agree with you. Over the years, I've found that it's better to do your homework and then go in with a firm offer that you're happy with and that's reasonable for the dealer. Based on my research at the time, I felt that I'd be satisfied with $3K off on a car with MSRP around $60K. The dealer agreed to this, and then we both discovered that the PCM option was priced $300+ higher than Porsche was showing on the web site. The salesperson said, "I'll throw in the difference," and we had a deal. I could probably have squeezed out more, but this strategy makes the sales process a lot more friendly and pleasant than dancing around over a few additional dollars.

Give Herb Chambers a try. They came down 3500 without a fight. Claire could only move 2000. Good Luck

Thank you for your advice. It is actually Herb Chambers that offered me the aforementioned $2,500 discount. The sales put up a stink when I asked for that amount via e-mail Wed. morning. (I already visited the dealership on Sunday) He said he would get back to me with confirmation later in the day but did not do so until this morning. In his e-mail reply and phone meesage left for me, his tone sounded commanding and disrespectful... much like the Soup Nazi in Seinfeld. I did not appreciate it so I never got back to him.

Turned out to be a good thing. After I gathered some good advices from here, I started making phone calls to dealerships with credit card in hand for deposit. I aimed for a $4,000 discount. Thus far the best I've got is $3,500. I'll try a few more on Friday. Hopefully, I can get a deal done tomorrow and get delivery in June. :)

Brucelee 03-25-2005 06:29 AM

I am familiar with Herb Chambers and the boys. Not surprised by the attitude.

Hey, they are selling a CAR, not doing brain surgery.

Stow the attitude, dudes!

Just a thought, it looks like on this board we may have at least 3 individual ready to order their Boxster. May be we should team to do a group buy. Since we all in the Right Coast, it is not an issue to pick up our Boxster. May we we should list exactly we we want, and each of us present to our area dealers. And get the best deal we can. I anticipate that we should be able to get 7% at least. IT is not a bad deal for the dealer for a few hour work.

I am ready to order in April.

Later,

No_Name 03-25-2005 11:11 AM

Hey Dawg, I have a deal underway for $4,000 off , or ~7% in my case. They are to check on June delivery allocation before the deal can be done (fingers crossed). Dealer is located in NH - a bit away from DE. Let me know if you like me to speak w/ them about a GB. An April order will likely have July delivery, which will work out perfectly. Only if you are absolutely serious though... I'd hate to "dick" them around. Car Sales are people, too. :)

underDAWG 03-25-2005 12:07 PM

Hey NN..... I understand. Time is money and we never have enough.

I delay my puchase until the first 2 weeks of April so that I can finalize my options. With so many errors in both Porsche book, website and inaccessible sale info, it really makes buying a Porsche the least fun.

If you don't mind, please talk to your dealer and test the water if we can strike a better deal. If I have to move up my purchase that is fine with me. Please send me an email at lys(at)zoominternet.net. Thanks.

Just inked the deal this morning at $3,700, or 6.64% off. Dealership personels were courteous and profrossional through out the whole 4-day negotiation process.

The June delivery date cannot come soon enough. :D

Thank you to those who offered invaluable advices in the past few days.
