Wondering if anyone has installed a GAHH glass windowed top on their 986 Boxster AND has an OEM rear speaker enclosure installed as well.

If so, is there any interference between the GAHH top and the enclosure at any point in the closing/opening cycle?

Also, if you have a rear and a side view photo of your GAHH glass windowed top installed on your 986 that you would be willing to allow me to use in a DIY guide that I am preparing, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hi Maurice,

I have a glass window GAHH on my 2000 986 and have the OEM rear speaker enclosure. No interference whatsoever.

I will see if I have any decent pictures. If so I will add them later today.

Real PITA to get to the engine with a GAHN top.

Glass doesn't fold.

That top is sharp; which version did you get? Sonnendeck? Canvas? I noticed they have multiple options: I'm purchasing one and getting it installed prior to the beginning of the rainy season and am not sure which material choice to go with...

I originally installed an OEM canvas top with vinyl window, after stripping off my old top with slashed window.

I recently installed an '04 OEM glass windowed top complete with frame assembly, and in the process installed a used set of the new version transmissions and re-wired the electrics to the new set up.

The OEM glass top makes access to the engine compartment a little easier than the GAHH or Robbins glass tops.

For installation in NJ, you can visit Pete. For Northern VA ???

Thanks for the reply and for permission to use the photos.

If you have higher resolution photos, it would help to give GAHH a fair shot in a comparison with the OEM vinyl and the OEM glass windowed tops.

Thanks Oaktown! Back during 2005 when I ordered the top GAHH had two materials to choose from. I chose the higher quality material but don't remember what they called it.

I've seen their ad on the left side of this site advertising their new "Ultimate Boxster Top" with the frameless glass. If I ever have to buy a new one I will choose that one.

A lot of people love the glass retrofit tops, just be aware that the older 3-bow tops were designed to have the plastic window fold in half. Since the glass can't fold, it is smaller in size so that it fits during retraction, but these tops also create a significantly reduced amount of topside engine access.

Finally bought the A5 glass GAHH top! Dropped at Metzel's in SF (referred by coworker who has an amazing new top on his E36 Bimmer) and labor charge is only $800.

Sawwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

My latest Costco purchase was a new Rebel X1I, so you better believe a video and pic album will be posted sometime in the next 2 weeks. I've also installed the Spyder taillights, so it should look pretty clean all said and done.

It seems people either love or hate the black wheels. I happen to love them! I had my 17's powder coated and sold them with a great set of tires on them after buying my 19's. Now I wish I would have kept them to mix things up occasionally.

$800 for installation is a LOT of money. It's a 4 hour job for someone who knows how to do them... They charged you $200 an hour for labor!

My mechanic quoted me $450... but he's not a certified GAHH approved installer for that warranty. Let's hope your installer was GAHH certified for that price so it will have the full replacement warranty attached to it.

Love the black. I think I'm going that route for my all season tires, and this summer I'm going to get some sticky tires on slightly bigger rims for blasting around Cali at high speeds.

RE: $800; that is for an GAHH licensed install as well as fixing one of the arms I broke (don't leave hardcover books on the convertible ledge) and resynching it. Also, I've read it's a 6 hour job, so it's $133 an hour, which is the market rate here in San Francisco.
