Interior Light wont illuminate as I open the door

I have a '02 "S"... when I open the door the interior light won't come on? When I put the key in and turn the light will come on and then dim (normal). Any sensors I can check?
Wiring? Any clues would be helpful.
Thanks

any other odd gremlins like...

key hard to pull out/turn?

ignition doesn't "clunk" when removing key?

radio stays stuck on after key removed?

If so, might be the usual electrical gremlin culprit.... bad ignition switch.

What do you mean interior light? All the lights (doors etc) or just the top light?

If it just the top light then my best bet is that your connections aren't right in there.
There are three positions in the top light (on, off, and dependent to doors opening). The technology in the top light is bull, just two metal connectors that are in contact. Mine was loose and when I changed the lump I tightened it a bit.

If you are lucky, it might be just that. You need to "align" the connection inside the light assembly.

All the lights...
And the ignition does "clunk" in the final off position (to remove the key)
I'm hoping its a connector somewhere or a sensor/contact switch in the door??

+1 what burg boxster is alluding to, the infamous "ignition switch" failure. Mine went out and was pretty easy to replace. That little thing can really wreak havoc with your electrics.
have you replaced yours yet? check the DIY thread on here. It covers it pretty well and references pedros site. Only about a $30 part and fairly easy to install(with small hands).
