If coolant spewed everywhere it could indeed be the WP. I had an experience where my 986 dumped a ton of coolant near the right rear wheel well. Turned out the only problem was a bad radiator cap.

I'm not sure if youre 3.6L engine is positioned in the engine bay the same way as the original engine was, but if so, and your coolant is coming out from the center rear of the car, I would say it is the water pump failing, as I noticed that was the case when my water pump failed. If, however, the coolant was leaking from under the front of the right rear wheel, then I'd say the leak is coming from either a bad coolant cap or coolant tank (I noticed this when my coolant tank failed). I think with the 3.6L engine, however, the coolant tank is on the left rear side, so you would see leaked coolant there if the tank was the culprit.

On my 3.6 everything is in the same place as the 2.5 that was removed.

Yes the Coolant was coming from the right rear wheel. The shop called and thier first diagnosis was a bad thermostat. The coolant was getting to hot and it had to escape from somewhere such as the cap, etc. I havent read this but at least its a cheap part if that fixes it!!
