Ok.. so I bought a optima R34 battery after thinking that i could not get my car started after it sat for a while. Plus the battery was 4 yrs old so i figured it was time for a new one. Well I started my car to warm it up and about 10 mins later I returned to the car to discover it had shut and that the A/C was still running but the engine was off. So now I have come to a cross road since it has to be the alternator and not the battery as i suspected it to be orginally .... So anyone have a DIY with pictures to replace the alternator. I bought a reman-bosch one but i need some tips on install....

But, first, make certain it is the alternator.

If you have a DMM, it's a simple check:

Battery: Remove at least 1 terminal and check for voltage across the terminals - s/b 13.0-13.2 Volts. A 12 volt battery is NEVER 12 volts if healthy. Each of the cells, wired in series, produces approx. 2.2 volts (X 6=13.2 volts)

Alternator: Reconnect terminals, start the car, turn on lights, Climate Control and stereo and check voltage across terminals (cables attached) - s/b 13.5-14.5 volts. This is your alternator output voltage.

If less than these values in either test, replace the indicated component.

ok.. so i changed my alternator took only hr to do the whole job.My question is that when I read the output of my battery/alternator gave over 800 cold cranks when first started and was close to 13.5 volt. output. The battery is a red top R34. Does the output of volt. seem about right?

Yes. The Bosche alternator output ranges from 13.5-14.5 volts. The battery alone s/b near 13.2 volts.
