My car tried to strand me. Key wouldn't turn!

I've only had the '02 Box for about a month now. Haven't even ran the first tank of gas through it. I stopped at Walmart yesterday to pick up some Mobil One for a first oil change. When I came out, the ignition wouldn't turn. Top was down, sitting in the blazing sun, and I couldn't do anything! I went back in Walmart to get some Lock-eze. No luck with finding that, so I got a can of Liquid Wrench (I was getting desperate!) After praying the ignition lock cylinder and playing with it for a long time, it finally let go. Looks like a pin was gummed up and not dropping back down when I turned it off. I was able to duplicate the problem a few times at home, then it freed itself and seemed much more positive.

Anyway, should I replace the cylinder? Or are the odds in my favor that the problem won't come back for a long time?

I had my car in repair a couple days ago and the manager of the dealer told me that the ignition cylinder locking up is a common issue. I would definitely look into getting it replaced before it happens again in a situation not worth the risk.. if you have an extended warranty on the car ( considering you just bought it), it should fully cover it

The steering lock is quite stout in my 987. It'll lock up the whole column to the point you're not quite sure which way to turn the wheel to free it up.
Also, on the 987 the key will turn and do NOTHING if it's not inserted all the way!
Twist and twist and turn it all the way to off position and try it again, and NOTHING. Then you figure out you didn't push the key all the way in!
