Friendly Office Rivalry...
Me... 2001 Boxster 2.7 Bone Stock.... Him... same era Honda S2000 Bone Stock.
Who is faster? I won't race him on the street. Stupid and dangerous. But I would like to know how fast that Honda is... |

Are we talking drag race or twisty tight track? |
You live in Daytona? Isn't there some sort of race track facility near you?? :)
Sign both cars up for the next open track day with timing. Best time of the day between you wins. Loser buys the steaks and beer. Both cars are very quick and very close. The driver with the best skills will win. |

Daytona International Speedway is here. As far as I know, they don't let anybody ride on the famous high banked turns of Daytona :( They do have club days though, SCCA events. The closest thing we got going is the Bithlow Speedway, which is a .25 mile drag strip where you can pay a few bucks and "Race what you brung". I honestly think if I were to drag race, I would probably lose slightly. My only hope would be a race track with turns, and that my PSM would get my through :D |
His S2000 will beat you in a straight line and if all things are equal will beat you on a circuit track as well. Of course things are never equal when it comes to driving ability so if you can drive better than him you could beat him on a circuit.
|
^^ yups, what Adam said... The S2000 is more comparable to a Boxster S (986) in terms of its stock performance, than it is to a 2.7L 986...
|
thats kinda what I thought. I never made claims that I didn't think his car was faster... but at the end of the day, he still has a Honda.. and I still have a Porsche. ;)
|
Quote:
Actually, at the end of the day you both have nice cars. Who cares which manufacturer made it. :) |
Yea s2k is faster.
It kinda sucks cause in club racing like I do, boxsters and boxster s's are classed together with s2000's...not fair  |
Quote:
Who told you life would be fair? If so, I would have been much better looking! :D |
There different cars. An S2000 has more HP and goes fast in a straight line, but the Boxster could easily out handle him on a twisty track/road.

Here is a comparison link for the two cars. They are very close but the 02 Base Boxster gets the nod. Three secs. faster on the 8 1/2 minute Nurburgring Nordschleife... very very close. Draw your own conclusions.

Don't put any money on it!
Assuming both cars are stock and equal drivers:
In a straighline the S2000 is faster. The only contest where the Boxster might win is acceleration from a 10mph or 20mph where the Boxster's better low RPM torque might put you ahead. In an autocross the S2000 is about 1-2 seconds faster (it is course dependent but the S2000 will probably win regardless of the course) Track event - hey, what are you doing racing at an HPDE? Very stupid without a cage IMHO. S2000 probably wins here as well but I think the Boxster might have the legs in fast sweepers. A 986S or a base 987 are probably more even matchups. Regards, Alan |
Well, this list doesn't list the 2.7L 217hp boxster, but the 228 hp 986 boxster did lap the ring faster than the S2000 so I was wrong. They should be pretty close.

I'd wager at highway speeds, the 2.7 has an edge.

Interesting . Sounds like you guys are saying the S2000 is a slightly better car. And it's definitely cheaper. So why don't we all have S2000s ? Just a thought. BTW, I think the boxster has a big edge in the looks department.

Faster? Yes. Better? No. Personally, I wouldn't like the lack of torque in the S2000. I don't like it in my E46 BMW (2.5L I6) and I really wouldn't like it in the Honda (even less torque and higher up the RPM range.) IMHO, it would be fun at first, especially in an Auto-X, but I would grow tired of having to "rev the piss out of it" for normal driving. BTW - The above comments on the S2000 being faster than the Box only apply to a stock base 986 (2.5 or 2.7.) I think it would be more of a drivers race in a 986 S or 987. I would love to drive one in an Auto-X. I bet it would be a hoot (as is the Box.) :D |
