I had the same issue with my '99 Tip several years ago. Turned out to be a dirty transmission switch. Car was just out of warranty and so I hadn't started working on it much, I took it to the dealer and they cleaned and adjusted the switch while I waited - $67 - the only dealer service I've ever had.

BTW, at 67,000 mi., you're overdue for a tranny filter and fluid change (ZF, the manufacturer recommends every 45k mi.). It's an involved procedure for DIY, which I would rate experienced to advanced. If you had the dealer do that, they'd probably adjust/clean the switch for free, expect about $600 total.

thank you!

thank you for the prompt reply to my qestion.
i have made an appointment with the dealership for tomorrow so that they clean the switch. regarding the tranny thay must have done it during the 60,000 dealership service... which i did some months ago. the tranny service should be a part of the 60000mile service, no?
will report tomorrow on that as well
