New Owner and RMS Question

I guess I’m the newest 986 owner on the board. Was in LA last weekend and picked up a ’01 Seal Grey ‘S’ from a dealer there! Really maddening though. It’s now paid for, BUT still sitting at the lot as I’m trying to find a carrier to ship it to Seattle.

The dealer did some work before putting it up for sale including the following:
“Replaced Rear Crank & Secondary Shaft Flywheel Seal and Hub". I’m not hugely mechanical, but I’m suspecting (and hoping) this could be a RMS replacement. Mechanic’s bill shows job as 7.5 hours of labor. Can anyone on the board translate and confirm this??

Happy to now cruise this board as an owner – rather than looking from the outside in!

I suppose it could be the RMS (Rear Main Seal) or the IMS Seal (intermediate shaft flange). Are there any part numbers listed on the invoice?

There are 2 part numbers that I can see.

"Crankshaft Seal (Rear)"
999 113 490 40

"Shaft Housing"
996 105 024 01

Nothing specifically says "Rear Main Seal" though......

"Crankshaft Seal (Rear)"
999 113 490 40

This part is the RMS also part no. 997 101 212 0x and list is $17.90 Retail

"Shaft Housing"
996 105 024 01

I'll need to take out the manual and check this one. The IMS is usually 996-105-017-0x and it's description is "shaft base" and list is $57.99 Reatail.

Awesome K.

I feel a whole lot better about what I paid knowing that I don't have to worry about the RMS thing!
