Mirror Mirror on the Wall is this the poser's board after all?
Just a little rant...
I don't know what brings me to posting this, and this will likely get me banned or gain me much disdain, contempt and flaming. Frankly I don't know what I have to profit from sharing this with you. I'm basically shooting myself in the foot. It's a feeling that has grown since I've stayed here, and it's becoming more apparent the more I see and discuss things here. I must get this off my chest. The truth must be told. I do not mean to insult everyone here, but I fear I ultimately will. So here I go down the slippery slopes... On the whole, as a group of posters, I find this group of forum members more articulate than most but far more ignorant and opinionated than hoped. A pigeon hole type mentality is pervasive. Creative thinking is the rarity. Problem solving or modding a forgone conclusion. Dare I say the boxster criticism of Poser Porsche seems to fit. And fit well on average :barf: . I think that really sucks because the boxster is a capable performance car that has yet more to offer. I belong to several other internet forums and this one is the worst in terms of factual info and objectivity. On average, this forum's info is largely biased and not well thought out. It is not only closed minded, but oppressively so. There are shining exceptions to this, tool pants, grizzly, randallneighboor, bismoto engineering, etc... (forgive me if I forgot you on the list...) Do I need to get a 911 and hang with them? No, I'm not drunk... no I'm not on meds... just a little fed up with the poser mentality here. There, I feel better. What I can't play in this sandbox anymore?? :D |
Uh huh....
|
Umm... I do wish to know what other forums you hang out on.. I'd say the signal-to-noise (i.e.: Factual information/help vs. guessing or superstition) is at least on par with the other automotive forums I'm on.
I will say that this forum seems to endorse ascetics (sp?) mods more than almost any others I'm on. You guys seem all for it and understand the concept of "It's your money, and your car, do what you want" than most of the others I'm on  The people here are rather nice as well... So I cannot agree with anything said in your argument, sorry. |
bye! :ah:
|
People here helped me out with my rookie questions. And they did it without judgement. I was made to feel welcome here.
The variety of technical gurus, posers, or simple stock boxster driving lovers are what adds color to this forum. What I've seen the least of in here is disrespect, and that's what I appreciate. Some like the drive, some like to pose, some like to tinker and others just like to help out. I don't mind any of them. Cheers! |
This is a time I wish MN was here... Hed know how to step it up.
|
MN? Please, dude.
|
Ha, I almost forgot about that till you brought it up. But seriously, I dont think anyone could be as belligerent as him and mean it.

I'm a poser that drive a boxster :D :D :D but if i hang around in 911 forum and talk like i know what i'm talking about..now that's a poser :D |
What is anyone posing as? I don't fully understand.
Converting a boxter into a carrera gt is posing. Talking about boxster performance, looks, apple stocks, and reliability seems pretty real to me. |
Where you been, Unkle? I was just thinking that I hadn't heard from you lately.
No, I'm not the reason Jim's gone, but I can't say I'm upset about his demise. In the end, Jim did himself in. It's a great story. I only wish I could tell it. |
I do my best at being tolerant of everyone. I know it takes all kinds to make the world go round. It's the disquise I can't stand. I mean come as you are, and say it like a man. If you're gay, well hell you are gay! (not that there is anything wrong with that) Humara come on out! :p If you're a poser, then I don't see the point of posting on performance matters and passing it off in some objective manner when it is not. That what bugs me. What seems to be lacking here is honestly. In it's place I see a lot of posturing. For example the PSM thread, it doesn't seem strange to anyone else all the naysayers don't even have PSM or experienced it? So how in the world are they giving "objective" opinions on the matter is a puzzle to me?
PS. stay tuned for MN boxster reveal... You may need to send a search party. |
What is this? Clue? You gonna bop colonel mustard with the candle stick? Speak coherently and concisely, not in riddles and questionable jokes that aren't funny.

dude, i've been so busy lately...now that the school starts, kids homework starts too....aaargghhhh, my brain is hurting :D :D :D plus, being IT System Engineer Support Supervisor (hardware group) and Senior IT Consultant in insurance company is very challenging, esp..if you don't really know why you got promoted..hehehehehehehe :D :D :D |

@boxsterz- Sorry I'm ruining your thread. I'm going to go read the PSM piece right now. I don't have PSM or know anything about it, so I didn't read it before...Be right back. |
your right  but most of the time, I just help...
aight, guys.....don't want to see this thread go down the drain  You guys Rock and this is the best forum....EVER! |
It's cool Griz. I'm just testy I guess :o
|
O.K., I'm back. I guess I see your point Boxsterz, but it's not hard to tell the players from the bull****************ters. I find that's the case with a lot of threads. You just have to listen for the real conversation over the static. At times, the static ends up providing some great comic relief...or starting really entertaining throw-downs.
Occasionally it's annoying to have to wade through the crap, but there's enough good information and camaraderie here to make it all worthwhile. At least I think so. |

I am confused as to what you are trying to say. Is your only definition of a true Boxster enthusiast someone that is calling up Gambella and ordering every single kit, aero package, SC, or add-on they can afford? Are you upset because we actually talk about life within the boundaries of this forum and are not spewing out commentary about 0-60, ET, track days, slicks & camber setting at each and every turn? I didn't purchase a 986 nor join this forum for purpose of turning my roadster into a fast & furious Toyko Drift competitor. Is that "poser speak" because I don't have the need to race every single ricer gunning at each light? I think it is called maturity and understanding for what the Boxster is and what it is not. I can mod a Civic into one hell of a popcorn machine capable of impressive launch times, jerky twists and stoplight thrills, but at the end of the day, I still have a used and abused Honda.....not exactly what I would call: refined. "Do I need to get a 911 and hang with them?" I think that line is quite revealing.... Do you need to feel better about yourself and your car selection? I think that line points to a character issue that you might be having with yourself much more so than the company you keep here on this forum. What do you want or expect this forum community to do for you? What do you expect from your Boxster? In line with the other forums, I don't see the bickering nor the aimlessness that I observe over at ppbb, but I agree at on the General Forum it is not as technical as the RennTech board. I used to race Vettes AX and SCCA for many years, and I simply got tired of the constant modding, the MSD this or not, the Lunati this, the Camfield this, Hurst, No2, boost discussion, fuel cells, helmets, everything......It was loud, extremely fast, essentially ridiculous & just over the top. I don't want to feed that side of my personality anymore, if that is "poser speak", then call me guilty. I am a professional, so I desire to be slightly more refined, controlled and confident without having to prove it by popping clutches and race redlines at every stoplight. It is essentially called maturity & inner confidence. Perhaps you believe you will gain more confidence in yourself by driving a 911. Somehow, I still think you will be left wanting.......and finding fault where essentially there is none to be found, at least outside yourself and your own judgements. All the best. |
I was confused too. I kinda chocked it up to him having a bad day.
There are more tech type boards around so i guess i fail to see the issue. I see this board as a less formal place (opinions etc). |

That is the great part about this wonderful nation of ours...if you dont find what you are looking for you are free to go somewhere else. |
Several quick points.
1-We are not for everybody, no forum is. We try to allow for a wide array of viewpoints, so that people with stock Boxsters can live preacefully with the weekend track guys. 2-I still don't know what a poser is nor why I would care. 3-It says alot about us that this post did not devolve into name calling for the most part. 4-We don't do street racing here. Any guys who love to run on the weekends on the streets are not welcome to talk about that. All in all, I find the group pretty delightful most of the time, certainly compared to some of the other forums I frequent. |
Boxsterz,
I am a little confused here. Would you mind explaining to me exactly what your definition of a "Poser" is ? I have been a member of this forum for a year and a half, and I visit everyday for information and entertainment. I have met some great people on here, made some good friends, and learned a lot about a car that I love very much. I try and help out whenever I can to pay back those that have helped me if I can. I guess I am unclear ? Could you give me an example of what exactly a "perfect" forum would entail ? Thanks, Nick |
I think what boxsterz is getting at is that he is tired of people posting there opinion if it conflicts with his own opinion, like he stated about the PSM post. Perhaps, we should never post in response to peoples questions because we are not as knowledgeable as him.
If you have a problem with this board just leave no one is stopping you, but I don't see why you have to insult the entire board to do so. (Also, what I think he means by poser is that - We sometimes post on threads that we are not knowledgeable about to help and give advice, we're posing as knowledgeable racers, or mechanics, etc.) |

Whatever.......pure nonsense. This is a great forum --- plain and simple. If you don't like it, then upgrade your life, your car or your attitude and move on.     |
yeah i would have to agree, it is a weird thread to start.
there are forums out there for technical information, we all know about it. i just love this forum here, check it out every day, in my free time, and sometimes not even free but still come and check it out. like Nick said, i met some cool people on this board, and not just that, but also happened to go to class with a fellow member that i would never talk to probably, or notice, but since we both share a"stock/slow/non 911" boxsters, were all good and its nice to see a familiar place. i just think its cool that people on here dont act like little kids and name-call everyone, including the thread starter. it is definitely different than other forums, so either you like it or not, so you are free to stay or leave. also, just look at the number of posts of people who replied to this, and then go to a lets say renntech forum and check those same peoples numbers, and that will show you something... |

Let's face it, there is only so much you can do to the boxster as far as performance goes other than swapping out the engine as a last resort. So if your saying that boxster owners and members on this forum talk more about astetics than performance upgrades, then maybe you should have bought a Honda Civic. As boxster owners most of us like the car the way it is and comes from the factory. Not sure how we are all posers. This forum is for helping out people who have questions about their boxster. No one is forcing you to stay on as a member. :troll: |

I choose this site more often than others. I just love to drive this little car and I love hearing the stories from others who love driving theirs. I am older than most on this site and am far more interested in function than automotive fashion. To each his own. Regardless of experience, everyone has a right to express their own opinion here. That we don't always agree is a good thing. The diversity keeps things interesting. This is the fun Boxter site. If it doesn't float your boat... move on.

yeah, he was still around after that.....altho the defeat of MNBoxster would be more culturally impressive than beating the French huh CJ :D
you see man, I bit my tongue when I read that the first time but you see where people like him like to go when they are messed with :) if you can remember the whole race thread thing....oh brother.... anyways back to this post, I will say I went back to the PSM thread and found it pretty boring....it looked pretty simple..llike a billion other threads.....I will agree we have some big arguments that some owners show preference based on what they have even if they didn't experience the alternative first hand 1) 986 vs 987 2) wheels style/size....dj hates my boring "everyone" has them 19's :D then he goes and gets some of the baddest wheels I've seen (RUN DMC bad), I still have to see them in person.. 3) apparently PSM, hey I got it came with the car 4) winter tires, my favorite.....the times I've seen I drove a blah with this and that and can say, or the best is some members from places like california saying the boxster will do this and that in the snow....really? lol.... but now I admitt I am a poser who simply loves how his car looks and zips around effortlessy, now does anyone know where to get some nice quality painting done to my calipers? calibers? whatever they are....and you thought I was kidding when I said poser :D |
