"Boxsters suck!" From an 11 year old. (my personal rant)

I was leaving a fair last night in Mandeville visiting my 2 sisters who were actually working the event. One of my sisters is as wealthy as a movie star and as luck would have it --- of course the other is not at all. Well, I didn't tell em anything about my "new" Boxster until I got there and they were excited for me. Upon leaving, the "movie star" sister's (both in looks and $) son (yes my nephew) ----
looks at my car parked behind his mom's S600 AMG apparently waiting for reaction to my sister who says, "Look at his new Porsche, it is a Boxster S convertible" says "ohh, Boxsters they suck." and jumps into his mom's car.

Of course this is coming from a spoiled brat who just turned 11 and whose father drives everything from Viper GTS-R's to Gallardo's, so I guess in some ways his dad has mentioned that Boxster's "suck" in comparison. Just thought it was a rude comment (no offfense taken honestly), but definitely a poor way to raise a child IMHO. I know that other wealthy people know how to raise their children and they do it with proper morals, respect and character.

I never had the silver spoon, I remember literally scraping coins together off the floorboard of a 1980 rusted out Fifth Avenue that I paid $200.00 after college (when I was 23, had a new shotgun wife and an unexpected new daughter) just to drive thru the burger place one more time to feed us ($0.99 burger) for one more night. I made the choice to go out with an engineering degree in hand and still work 3 jobs: stocking groceries at night 7 days a week, framing and roofing on the weekends (every weekend) and working my entry-level engineering job during the day for nearly 2 years to get us on proper footing. It was hard work, it was sacrifice and it definitely was humbling & humiliating at times... but it built character and strength.

Later I gave back by joining the Army (256th Infantry HQ) & becoming extremely active in Habitat for Humanity and now still run teams for rebuilding projects at least twice a month....it makes me feel a tad bit selfish sometimes when I drive my 'S' after having to work for so much for so long to get where I am today, but I still remember myself as a child with posters, collecting magazine ads, and just dreaming of one day owning a Porsche....just because I loved the pure emotion of what it stood for in my heart.

Yeah, apparently that same Porsche that "just sucks" ----
Oh well, we cannot all be spoiled disrespectful sons of movie stars.

I just hope that somewhere along the way a lesson is taught to this child that isn't too painful. Status of our times or just poor parenting? Dont know.

Just thought I would share --- thanks for tolerating my rant.
All my best,
M

Bambino Don 10-13-2007 05:34 AM

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha......................be t you feel better after writing that.

He will probably wont learn his lesson about money. Rich people like that never do
its not his fault, he has been born into it.
When he turns 16-17 and time for his 'first' car im sure boxsters wont suck then.

James

blkboxster 10-13-2007 05:34 AM

Hes a kid what does he know? boxster Dont Suck :D , Tell him that that the S600 isnt a amg :D , amg does not tune the S600 :D

 enjoy your New boxster

humara 10-13-2007 07:45 AM

two words...
spoiled brat.

sounds like this kid (and en entire generation) will get much worse before they get any better.

kid probably needs a good spanking. oh wait. isn't that against the law now? lol. see it quite often these days. kids just have no and get no discipline.

as i see it, this is more about the parents than the kid.

meerzee 10-13-2007 08:39 AM

I agree and that is what my girl thought too.....she is a pathlogist and we both have always worked so hard for everything and to have it openly dismissed by a 11-year old is just plain disrespectful....and she said it best, "He probably heard his dad (my BIL) talking bad about them and saying they suck......they only learn at that age what they hear....and behave how they are taught"

It is definitely a trend that will only get worse with that family, but what can you do? Live your life and teach my kids, who unfortunately don't live with me, the best that I can and try hard as possible to support them each day. It is a sad state of the world when kids are raised with such contempt, superiority and entitlement at such young ages.

Absolutely correct.
It is purely the results of bad parenting --- plain and simple.

Back2DTM 10-13-2007 08:43 AM

he said that because he was told by his dad or heard from his dad.

mikefocke 10-13-2007 08:59 AM

Examine a statement like that

and you find it coming from an insecure kid who has to convince himself that he is superior by putting down both other people and their choices. Has nothing to do with your car, you could have had a GT3. But his choice and his daddy's choice would always be superior because that is how they convince themselves of their worth.

True worth is measured in friends and enjoyment. Go enjoy your car, take a ride.

djomlas 10-13-2007 09:02 AM

but boxsters do suck :D

brp987 10-13-2007 09:34 AM

Nice story. Maybe send it to your sister and she'll read it to him. Kinda reminds me of this (hope the link works):

blood sweat and tears

Franco 10-13-2007 10:17 AM

Hi Meerzee, Reading your post I sensed some degree of animosity between you and your sister's family, blaming the parents for what your nephew said, seriously these 11 year old brats are better informed than us old farts with all that **************** on TV, Net, Magazines, Friends, etc., and lets hope he doesn't read 986 Forum or we're screwed :D ., and please don't listen to any girls opinions about all the he said she said crap unless you want to live the rest of your life alone without your family.Women will generally (always :D ) instill negative things in your mind about your side and nice things about theirs because they're are all jealous of each others hair.

Think positive :)

OH almost forgot when he turns 18 you have the right to smack him :p

cartagena 10-13-2007 10:48 AM

At the pet store there is a device that goes on the dogs collar that can shock the dog in the neck when the owner presses a button on a remote control. I always felt that if I had children I would buy one of these as soon as they learned how to make noise. Have we all forgot the saying "children should be seen but not heard"?

I was at the airport about a year ago and I remember this family trying to check their luggage with 3 little diablos. They were aged about 6, 3 and the other was an infant. The oldest was constantly running around kicking things while screaming, the 3 year old would not stop crying and the mother was unable to run after the brats since she was holding the infant while trying to check her luggage. The father kept saying "now now Jr, settle down please" in a Metroman sort of way. The oldest needed a firm boot in the ass but parents these days have forgot the concept.

I just kept thinking though how the mother really needed the remote control dog shocker.

"Oh Jr, come back here!" says the desperate mother.

"No! WAAAAAAA" screams the small brat.

Out comes the remote control and PZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Ha ha ha!!! laughs Cartagena as he watches the child scream in pain and fall to the ground.

But of course this is only my dream.

It's absolutely about parenting. If money in valued more than character in his upbringing, he's in for one hell of a ride when he becomes an adult. Look at all those teen stars out of control (who can escape the "news" these days ) money + bad parenting = serious problems.

Sputter 10-13-2007 11:10 AM

It's never about what others think about your car. The kid obviously wouldn't know **************** from putty however.. :D

My Boxster sucks...
Sucks up other cars on the road
Sucks into the appex of every curve i can find
Suck in the compliments at gas stations
Sucks up the side of my face and makes me smile
Sucks in the other car guys at the corvette shop we where at this morning

Boxters do suck

meerzee 10-13-2007 11:14 AM

ah, such good advice and ideas.....Love the brat buzz shocker, cartagena. Let me know where you get a set in stock, I might to just have to pay my sister an unexpected visit & early Christmas gift.

All in all, life is good!!! None of this crap bothers me, I have been in some horrific situations in my life and held the line regardless, so a punk and his comments mean nothing to me in the grand scheme of things....I just took the opportunity to share the event since I thought it was appropriate and maybe even a little "signs of the times" ---- Well, right now....I am sitting in a coffee shop in Covington on a beautiful sunny day, temps in the mid 70s and just loving life. Me and my sucky Boxster are having an awesome day (haha) and about to watch LSU game with some friends. So, just goes to show you just how amazing life can be even when you have to settle for and love a car that just plain sucks. :)

HAHAHA!

Thanks for the support... :)

Stunin_Stud 10-13-2007 11:17 AM

hey your a good man dont let this child get to you. I feel bad that he is numb to everything and has lost his ability to feel and understand. then again he is 11.

we all work hard and for me having this car was an accomplishment. Im now 22 and got my car when i was 21. Im a student, support my self and happened to get a good deal and my payments are low. I am thankful and I too am giving back to my community.

Dr. Kill 10-13-2007 11:18 AM

You should have thrown hot coffee on the little guy. That would teach him...

Just tell the kid his Schwinn sucks, they your even. :p

I think there is a south LA, thrill in the air. I got a wave from a female cop early this morning on 190 between covington and Mandeville for the first time in the history of the boxster. If you are familiar with the area, you know the speed trap right on the other side of the bridge, where you couldn't see them until it's too late. Normally they give the "you got lucky this time" look, but this morning, she approved of my top down fly-by in the best weather we have had all year.

Were either of you at the strip mall near Starbucks, Kmart, and Lighting Inc. today? It is rare to see a modified boxster in Louisiana and there was one with a new bumper and new tails.

Anyway Meerzee, your boxster doesn't suck. Though, the kid will probably be driving that v12 s600 and it makes me jealous, that doesn't suck either.

..... and by the way, it's ROLL TIDE for me.

markab986 10-13-2007 01:11 PM

Hang in there...while it's easy to blame parents for everything (this might be in fact the case)...the kid was just trying to get a rise out of you (true, he may be spoiled, but maybe not)

He knew he wouldn't get smacked for saying it, and I don't know what the follow-up with your sister was. He probably "had" to go outside and look at your new car instead of playing Halo 3 with his friends online and he was pizzed about it.

Uncalled for, yes...I'm not "standing up" for today's generation...but, this sort of behavior has been going on for centuries.

Hopefully, he will grow out of it...it just "hit close to home" because it's your new pride and joy, and you've worked hard for it. Remember not to take too much stock in what an 11 yo says, they're practicing up for being a teenager.

bmussatti 10-13-2007 01:41 PM

I don't really think there are bad kids in this world...just bad parents. And both parents need to be on the same page regarding values, discipline...and etc.

I don't really care what other people think or say about my car, either. I bought it for me, it's mine, I love it...and that all that really matters to me.

RandallNeighbour 10-13-2007 02:50 PM

Bill, I must disagree with you.

I know some wonderful parents who work very, very hard to discipline their child in a balanced way and teach them good manners and also have a lot of fun with them...

... and the kids are still little (or medium-sized) monsters.

Our society is so child-centric today that kids can't get away from the culture, even if they're home-schooled and don't have a TV. If they have friends, they're going to be sucked into the mindset and lifestyle of entitlement.

Then I would suggest they need better friends. Don't forget Randall, you might only "see" the parents a few hours per week...the kids are with the parents many more times that.

I wasn't around there today, Max....I did see a modified red Boxster in Metairie at a bank at the intersection of Transcontinental and West Esplanade....and I was in Folsom (wasting time driving the curves of Million Dollar Road!) and I saw a couple cops and they were pretty friendly today I must say......it was a great day to be out and about....I did pass a yellow S2000 on Million Dollar Road and is it just me or do I see a ton of those SKY/SOLSTICE running around....but no Boxsters around Mandeville, I was surprised.

Max, are there ever any events around the area for getting together, working on the cars, or just taking a drive? Feel good that at least Gary from BR and few others would be up for a nice Boxster fun/work day sometime. In any case, thanks again and keep in touch.

Thanks for all of the support ---- I don't know who to blame what on anymore, but kids are kids. However, in this case I can assure everyone that it is INDEED the parent's negative influence, attitude and airs of entitlement just lviing out through their children. I grimace each time I think about these kids in just about 5 years..... holy terrors x 1000 :troll:

Oh well, not my issue right? HAHA

Point well taken. One doesn't see the parent in action 24/7/365, that's for sure!

I never hear of anything around here. I was over at Benson staring at the Caymans the other day and a guy said to join the PCA, they have many events including track days. I don't think I am interested in that- it seems too formal. I would like to get together with you local 986 fellas though. I think the three of us all have black cars. It would make for an interesting run.

Meerzee, maybe you can help mentor the young boy, and be the "good uncle". You might be his only hope. You can set a better example than his father does.

Randall, I understand your point too. You are right that there are just some rotten kids. Not all the blame should go to the parents, but a BIG chunk should.

I am not the perfect parent either, I am learning each & every day. It is a lot of work and has great rewards and challenges.

meerzee 10-14-2007 05:31 AM

Yeah, Max....3 black Boxsters running would be very cool indeed, even though mine is basically stock compared to you 2 mod maniacs. :) The only mods I have made thus far is replacing the stock shifter with a 6-speed 996 (looks awesome and believe it or not seems to shift smoother) & set of Ultimate Pedals (should get those on Monday) with the drilled and rubber peg look with "Boxster S" script on em. A weekend run/work/dinner weekend combo would be a blast so please me if interested in setting up : meerzee at gmail dot com.

(MAX/GARY --- let's chat!)

But my stock 18" light alloys look pretty darn good, even though I would love a blacked-out set of 5-spokes with red pinstripes....(just think those would POP!)

As far as the kid, I LOVE THE IDEA ABOUT THE "EVERY EVENT IS A BOXSTER EVENT" (I am already known as the sarcastic one anyway, what could be better!)
Time for some Christmas Boxster fun.......Perhaps wrapping paper made with photos of my Boxster? HAHAHA

Parents to blame? I don't know anymore. Hard-working, ambitious and good natured, father who just enjoys really nice cars --- no problem there, coupled with just a lack of teaching proper morals and character. I think the real problem today is that the focus is so child-centric; this activity, that activity, this event, that event, comparisons, and the real culprit -- placing too much importance on things and not people, not relationships, not fun, just how much does this cost vs. what we own.....Put em out in a field on a tractor and get them to volunteer and contribute to their community, make them good citizens, kids with character.

yes, is the society partly to blame, sure. The parents do have 90% of the influence and control IMHO. (that graph may vary as children get farther along in their teenage years)

JCL12 10-14-2007 10:26 AM

Did he probably pick ip boxster bashing from his dad or mom? I would say so. Compared to gallardos, AMG SLs, and other sports cars above 100K, I would say our cars suck just a little ;)

But who knows - maybe his dad had a boxster and suffered IMS failure. If so, then "boxsters suck" is a legitmate comment from a pissed off customer. Maybe all that family cares about are 0-60 times - in which case a boxster is not too hot on the accelerate-to-price ratio. Lets remember, there are a lot of things out there that make our cars much less than spectacular :(

tboyer 10-14-2007 10:53 AM

On a recent trip home, my nieces and nephew asked me drop them off at school (one at a time) in my 986, they loved showing off in front of their friends. They're good kids being raised to appreciate hard work and the rewards that can come from it. Obviously, I could care less about the opinion of an 11-year old, he's just a speaker echoing what has been taught to him. Tip of the iceberg I'm afraid.

Bavarian Motorist 10-14-2007 11:10 AM

It's funny how people who have never driven a car, or especially a kid who has presumably never driven ANY CAR, can hold such strong reservations about them.

Don't worry about it. It's not about $$ in this case; it's about total ignorance.

And you know it trickled down from the parents....
