45k mi Service

Thought this might be helpful to some of you here in the Chicagoland area...

I'm getting ready to hit the 45k miles mark so I called around to see what the dealers are charging for service :

$651.00 Joe Rizza
$599.00 Loeber Motors
$560.00 Motor Werks
$625.00 Napleton Westmont
$675.00 Napleton Rockford
$815.00 Porsche Exchange

Not quite as varied as what I was quoted for the 30k last year :

New Owner – Yeah !

( I still can't believe how much The Porsche Exchange in Highland Park charges for service - I guess their customers are made of money )

Lucky for me Motor Werks is right next to my office so I'll probably set something up for next week...

Nick

I'm at 43k right now so it looks like I'll be getting my 45 done in the next month or so.

Where is Loeber Motors and where is Motor Werks?

Do it yourself, what's so hard about the 45k?

Thanks. Barrington it is.

I'm going to check my manual and see what all is in the 45k service. Maybe Paul is right and I can do it myself.

It's basically the same as the 15K. Oil, oil filter, cabin filter, engine air filter, are the major items. This assumes you had the brake fluid replaced at 30K/2 years.

The parts are less than $100 if you do some shopping.

I had a local independent shop quote me the 40K service plus a brake flush and the spark plugs. They wanted the car for a whole day, about $1000.
Ended up going to a friend's shop early one Saturday and we did everything but the brake flush for $300 including parts. took less than an hour and half and that's with two guys who never worked on a Boxster.

Dear Chicagoland boxster owners,

I will be at the Gino's Pizza place on Golf Road at 7:00 pm on September 28th eating by myself, drowing my sorrows in beer and marinara, in desperate need of the boxster bretheren.

Can someone like Nick or Bill take the ball and run with it and meet me there?

I'd love to see you all, drink a beer, eat a slice, and tell wild harrowing stories of my trip home from the Tail of the Dragon, where I stopped momentarily in Talledega, Alabama, got out of my car, screamed "NASCAR SUCKS!" and got back in my car and drove it like I stole it.

OK, I didn't really do that, but driving through town in my German made Porsche, I really wanted to and Lord knows everyone around me was thinking I'd hate NASCAR.

Let's NOT trade paint at Gino's!

Game on brother Randall!

It'll be good to see you again despite my liking of NASCAR.

Of course Ms. MightbeMrsSammysomeday might be ticked at you for the new wheels and headlights I purchased and blamed on you!

With that title, I'm confident you didn't piss away money on your car intended for an engagement ring, so I remain content with the way I positively infected you with "bolt-more-crap-on-my-car-itis"

See ya in a few weeks. And be sure to drive the Box so I can see the upgrades

BTW, if any of your four spoke wheel guys want to upgrade to a 3 spoke, I have one for sale. PM me if you are interested.

Don't worry, I have a few bucks left over for the ring.

(as a lone trumpeter quietly plays taps off in the distance) Congrats Sammy. Vaya con Dios, mis amigo.

I'm teasing, of course. I'm married 18 years on September 9th. It's pretty great. Good luck!

I 2nd that motion.

The 45k service is a joke,it should be more like $300 tops.

Parts all should be $60 oil,$.10 for a drain plug washer, $10 oil filter & o ring
Air filer $16 (Mahle)
Just for fun while the oil is draining, change the charcoal activated cabin filter $20,buy the one on www.************************************************************,it's labeled as a 997 number that works on a 986/996. It was an option that Porsche marked up greatly. It's meant as a hyper-allergenic filter kind of like for a house I think.

While the oil is draining you could have a snack & change out the cabin filter(I don't think it's part of the 45k). After the oil is done draining, change out the oil filter, reinstall the oil filter and oil drain plug. Fill the oil,run the car for a few minutes and recheck the oil levels. After that change the air filter,if you've already accessed your MAF then changing the air filter should be a breeze.

Take your wife out to dinner with the money you saved.
