Question How To Fix Boxter Problems

The problem I’m experiencing is the automatic window lowering when opening/closing driver’s door. The window drops 1/2” when lifting handle in process of opening door. The problem is the window lifts back up when the handle is released. Thus, when door is closing the window impacts the frame. Passenger door shows how it should work: On lifting handle window drops 1/2” and stays down when door is open and handle is released (thus when closing door window is in down position and does not hit frame). Does anyone know the likely cause of the problem and any ideas how to fix it?

He's saying that on the driver's side the window goes back up before the door is closed, ie as soon as the handle is released. The passenger side works properly, but not going up until the door is closed.

Sorry man, no idea how to fix it.

As for the Window raising back up after opening the door, i would suggest looking at the Door Latch grabber... or whatever its called, Im talking about the part on the door that grabs onto the striker plate. That is suppose to send a signal to the window that states that the door is still open and for the window to remain lowered until the door is closed. Heres a good way to tell if its malfunctioning or not, Open the door, and with the door open, turn the engine on... if the interior dome light and door lights turn off, then the latch that grabs the striker plate is no good, because the lights should stay on when the door is open after the engine is started.

If it was working it would tell the window to stay down while the door is open and the interior lights would turn stay turned on if you start the engine and leave the door open.

Wndow raising after opening door

I did as you suggested (turn engine on with door open), and the interior lights did not come on. Your diagnosis of the problem has to be right on. Now, how do I get to the microswitch on the door closing striker plate (or should I take it to the dealer)? I find nothing regarding this in the Boxter-S manual. Regardless, thanks Carlos for your insight in pinpointing the problem so that I can relate it to the dealer's service tech.

I had the exact same symptoms back in Feb. I was still under CPO at the time, so the dealer fixed it for free. They replaced the pwr wnd motor.
