"roast 'em!"

So... I am stopped at a light in Albany with my top down.

I see some kids in an old cavalier (maybe 22 years old each) trying to get my attention. They are about 5 feet ahead of me.

Finally I pull up and ask what they want.

The kid looks down and goes, "Roast 'em!" Roast 'em... oh, burn them out? At a traffic light?

I don't know HOW to do that! I mean I do, but I've never done it, and I know I need a little clearance in front of me in case I let off the brake and move forward.

I imagine it can't be good for the brakes or the tires, obviously.

I say, "What?? I can't do that."

They seem all ********************y & disappointed. "That Porsh ain't got ****************, then."

ME: Okay then. I turn my techno back on and just to excite them, I revved my engine to rev limiter.

They start babbling some things. I forgot what, but I responded, "These tires are expensive." "I bet they are", he replied.

The light turns and we drive away. I see a cop in the opposing lanes and I think, "Maybe it's a good thing I don't know how to burn these tires..."

Has anyone ever ... done this to you? I must admit I was very disturbed, but now I want to learn to burn them JUST A BIT

ANOTHER QUESTION: Why do people take the top-down as an invitation to talk to you? Can be annoying at times.

This is why my windows are tinted. The only people you should be conversing with a stop light are those of the opossite sex....

As fun as it may be burning rubber is very useless and expensive. I had kids ask me to do this in my WRX as well.

if you want the easy way, you can just rev it up and slip (lift off) the clutch fast. If you dont like your transmission you can just side step the clutch (slip foot to the side and let clutch "pop" back up). I think the Boxster has enough juice to burn that way.

Just make sure to turn off traction control. I have not really tried this in the Boxster at all and I dont think I ever will. I have the optional 19" Carrera S wheels and well those tires grip and are too expensive to mess around with like that.

It does, When i got my rear tires installed, i went to a friends house and did a burn-out it was like the Porsche gods got it on with the tire gods wife! The tires started to spin and the car eased forward slowly then the frontend lifted like a speedboat and the boxster started moving forward much faster and the tires didnt gain traction until about 120 feet later @ 5300rpms. Gave me the illusion of having a drag race-ready boxster lol... sadly the boxster cannot replicate that burnout anymore, just normal burnouts that gain traction a tad-bit too soon well before the RPM's can make it to a respectible 5000 rpms before gaining traction.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be doing it.

As it is, I autocross often and I want these to last as long as possible.

Sometimes I just wish I could enjoy my car peacefully...

Dont feel bad, I got more girls screaming for attention on the road while in my 1967 Ford Mustang than i ever did in my Boxster... Depends in the area, the time, and day your driving through. Infact i get ZERO attention from outgoing women in the boxster, only time i had any attention was in Pasadena (old town) and some women (trendy hair dressers) walked out side the salon and were yelling at me just to say hello... top was down and i felt like a million bucks. Thats about it for nice girl stories.

Well, you're not alone. Never get attention from women.

I just remembered I have a girlfriend ... Maybe I should talk to her more.

O.K., I realize you've led a sheltered life. I mean a kid who doesn't know how to spin the tires on the sports car Daddy bought him, and then is not embarrassed to post about the lack of said knowlege and experience? I'm wondering about your last statement, however...do you have any idea what you're talking about, or do you just string random letters together and hope they spell words?

I'm sorry, are you experienced with engaging in illegal activities such as burning the tires at a traffic light?

Must be a ghetto-fab e-thug thing.

No, kiddie, not all of us are into dangerous & illegal acts and not all of us are knowledgable on it.

However, I hope your extensive knowledge on the matter will get you far in life. At least as far as being a cop will get you.
