I agree. Also, I think these rims are really gun-metal (silverish) black. I have a feeling totally black rims (perhaps with a yellow circle line where the rim touches the tire) will look really cool.

Thx, sp. Very interesting and unique Box! They both look better than the silver (caps/lips), but I like the total black wheels slightly better. Perhaps if the yellow line was thinner -- this way it looks like the tires are yellow-walled. :)
Oh, and I'd keep the A pillars yellow.

Hi all,

Thank you all for the input, comments and photoshopping... :D

I definitely plan on getting clears for it. They have somehow been overlooked in the other lighting mods I have been doing to it... i.e. recent clear litronics and i have to put the 550 red taillights on it i have... is removing the tails as easy as the headlights?

I had not even considered painting the mirrors and pillars black but that looks like a possibility if i keep the black top

I am considering either having the wheels powdercoated or painted black (maybe hyperblack?) and possibly the lips polished if I can find a good shop to do it. Anyone ever had that done and were you happy with the results? What did it run per wheel?

very nice ps examples dj, sp and i shouldn't forget denverpete's... ;)

Thanks again,

Ian

While I like the black wheels it would almost be a shame to get those beauties painted (not powdercoated - see other threads).

With black rims it opens up the "Paint the calipers" issue.....red or yellow?...hmm....

Does it ever end?

Found a picture for you, even though it looks really washed out.
.

It's washed out because it isn't Speed Yellow. When the Box was first intro'd, one of the std colors was "Pastel Yellow", and I think that's what is in the picture.

Personally, I like the black top.

idheaton 03-27-2007 12:15 PM

Yes, if pastel yellow had been the only choice of yellow, I must say I would have been driving a different color Boxster.

Ronzi, I love the color of your Boxster .... :)

What type/size of rims are you running....they look pretty sweet from what I can tell in your avatar pic.

Not that you're prejudiced about the color or anything, eh?
Pastel Yellow apparently wasn't a big seller as they phased it out after a yr or two, and it hasn't reappeared.

The wheels are an aftermarket Sport Design style wheel, 8x18 and 10x18. I have never been able to establish what brand, but they are a one piece wheel vs the Porsche two (or three?) piece wheels.

I like the black contrast and have been thinking of getting a black hardtop to go with the red (standard red) Box.

idheaton 03-27-2007 12:44 PM

Not prejudiced at all... :D

Nice rims regardless of brand...i've like how the rears with a deeper lip look on the boxsters.

porsche986spyder 03-27-2007 12:54 PM

I like the black rims for obvious reasons. But if you get the ones you have painted, they won't be able to polish or chrome those lips on those particular rims. Those are one piece painted silver. Nothing to seperate the spokes from the lip. You would have to paint them solid black or buy new rims that are at least a 2 piece with the seperate lip, either polished or chrome. ;)

djomlas 03-27-2007 03:01 PM

i believe his are already a 2 piece

Speed yellow is a beautiful color for the Boxster. I'd paint the top to match.

I also have a Speed Yellow Boxster. I have been looking for a hard top and wondered if I found a black one would I leave it black or paint to match. Thanks to your pics, I say PAINT TO MATCH!. There's a fellow on Rennlist who has a SY boxster with matching hardtop. Looks quite nice.

KevinH1990 03-27-2007 05:25 PM

I had a red hard top on my white Miata. I thought the red gave a little pizzaz to the drab white. Speed yellow is already pretty eye catching. I think the matching hard top on the Boxster gives the car a sleek appearance from certain angles. You can always have a black top when you are using the soft top.

However, you should do whatever makes you happy.
