These are all relative terms. To Donald Trump, the costs would be nothing!
However, to us mortals, most of us think that the maint and repair costs could be lower.
The reliability question is even more contentious.
Lets put it this way; without a warranty, you need to have some cash avaiable for your Porsche.
It ain't a Honda!

My next door neighbor has an S2000. To me, it's a boring looking car with very little soul. It's a good performer and probably more reliable than the Box, but I wouldn't be willing to trade. Parked next to one another (same color), our Boxster makes the S2000 look like a Yugo.

Hey i have a 2002, and i love it!
i bought it with 10,000miles, and have put over 30,000miles over 3 years. i have had to buy new tires and my first service ....grand total over 30,000 miles has been $1300.00. thats not bad, probably average!
these guys are right, ask the dealer that has the car, if you can take it over to the porsche dealership and have them do the ppi. if they say no, then don't buy it....if yes buy it and you will love the car. soooo happy i didnt end up buying the s2000 or the 350z, which were my two other choices.
buy it!

I'd say the price is a LITTLE on the high side... Saw a nice 2002 in Houston that was asking about $22.5, IIRC.
Seen 2001s go for 19k (got mine for 19k) up to 22k.

do you currently service your vehicle? If not, assuming that you will keep your same routine either the stealership or independent gargar will be and YES it could be costly. But there are ALOT of good tips and info on this web site that can help you but keep in mind porsche parts are not cheap!
Do you home work before you make any decision....Good luck

Are you talking about base, S, or does it not matter. I got my 2000 S in December with 38,000 mi for $21,500 and I thought I got a great deal. Now I'm not so sure.
FYI - Even if I didn't, I don't care. I LOVE this car. It's exactly what I would have wanted no matter how many I would have looked at (triple black, 18" wheels, and sport seats). When I first got it, I figured I would sell my BMW, drive it as a DD for a year and sell it for something else. Now I'm keeping the BMW, the Boxster is the fun weekend car and the 911SC is the one being shown the door.

Bought a 2002 base model for the same price in PA last August at a non-Porsche dealer. 2 month warranty. Ended up buying an outside warranty through the dealer for ~ 2 grand.
Black. No heated seats. 20k miles at the time. Stability control. Brand new top + motor replaced under Porsche warranty.
Certified Imports, LLC in Coopersburg. http://www.certifiedimports.com/
At the risk of souding like an advert... these guys were absolutely amazing to work with. Looks like they don't have a base model right now though.
They picked up the tab on the PPI.
