987 Discount on MSRP

Just curious, for those who have purchased a new 987 in the last year or so, how much of a discount were you able to get from MSRP?

Seems like the dealers around here are very stingy about going more that $1000 below (seems pathetic to me).

Mine was a custom order. I saved just about 10%. MSRP was just under $67K.

Whilst ordering mine, the dealers in Houston were stuck
on MSRP.

So...

to the internet, Robin!

Of ten or so dealers to whom I sent emails,
most offered $4,000 off or 5%.

So I would send an email to your nearby (or not so
nearby -- they can mail them right to you these days)
dealers with a specific option list and ask them for their
best price. Tell them you are shopping other dealers
as weil.

See what you get.

Best,

- Mark

MSRP discounts on Porsches, like many other brands, has a lot to do with what you're buying and when you are buying it. If you are buying an 07 in December of this year and it's on someone's lot, you're going to get a heck of a discount... the 08's are already being ordered and delivered.

With this obvious stuff stated, I've been watching it carefully as I dream about buying a brand new Pcar one day :ah:

I see a typical 5% off MSRP, and 10% off MSRP if the new model year can be ordered.

My good friend Mark (Houston_C4S) and I are starting a new business and hopefully I'll have enough income from this new venture to buy myself a new S just like he did in a year or so. If the venture goes really, really, well, I'll bump that model choice right up to a new 997TT, thank you very much

I ordered a well optioned '07 987S in September '06 with a list price of $62K and negotiated the deal at 5% over invoice. With 6% tax it came to $56K, the car was only $53K.

Thanks for the responses. The reason I ask, is that I was thinking about trading in my 05 for a new 07. My initial hope was to pay approximately a $16K differential between the new car and the trade-in. The MSRP on the new one is $63K and my car is in perfect condition with only 5K miles on it.

I thought I would have a chance to get about a $58K purchase price and $42K trade-in value. Didn't work out that way.

I talked to four dealers and the best case scenario is a $21K difference . Seems pretty unreasonable to me ($62 purchase, $41 trade). I have the option to sell the car, then purchase, but I'm not excited about paying a bunch of sales tax.

Anyhow, I decided to keep the car I have and buy new wheels

Raddoc, this was a very-very good deal! Best I have ever seen on a new, custom ordered P-car. This is a 14.5% discount ($9,000). Someone would be lucky to get this amount of a discount on a hold-over from a prior model year, and you got it on a custom order for the new model year. Good job!

Looks like the wheels will be the 19" Carrera Classics from Wheel Dynamics. I have one more dealer pending a quote on the 2007 deal and if that falls through, the wheels will be ordered.

Doc, great wheel choice. I have the cc's too...and luv 'em!

Have you asked for dealers from out-of-state to quote on a 2007? I found that out-of-state dealers to be more aggressive for your business. There are 4 Porsche dealers in neighboring Wisconsin. You should give them a call or an e-mail.

Hey Doc, I am in Rochester today! Drive down with the Boxster, and I'll buy you dinner!

We got a 15% discount on the Cayenne. It had a lot of great options too. They just wanted to move it, they didnt want an 06 on the lot when they are gonna get 08's in.

That's a different example. You got what I would expect. Your Cayenne was heavily optioned and was an "older" model year.

Raddoc's car was not heavily optioned and was a newer model year, with the new larger engine.

I did actually talk to the Porsche dealer in Madison and he didn't do anything for me. I think maybe I was being unrealistic with my expectations, but if this last one comes in too high I'll be happy to get the new wheels and keep my current box. What are you doing in Rochester? I actually have a business dinner in St. Paul tonight.

On a side note, I'm not actually a doctor, those are my initials. Although my wife is a doctor so there is an official Dr. Burton.

Well, when I bought the 2005 987 (purchased in Feb 2006) at Hoehn in Carlsbad - considered left over 05 stock (they had two at the time) I got ~$11,000 off MSRP.
