I purchased the cover from an eBay'er several years ago. Yes, it is made from a car cover type material. The washing instructions (will be included) suggest NOT to use detergent (only one cup Fantastic), cold to lukewarm water (not more tham 100 degrees) and air dry, to protect the the mold & mildew treatment and water repellency of the fabric.
I only ever used the cover 2-3 times during the past several years. It's in like-new condition.
