3.6L X51 Engine For Sale
Decided to part out my Ruf 3600 clone. First to go is the motor. Once this sells the rest of the car will be parted.
2006 built 3.6 X51 engine. This was purchased not as a reman motor but a factory new crate engine. Currently ~ 30k miles and ready to drop into a boxster. If you want to put it back into a 996 I can include the engine harness that originally came on the motor which is new and unused. This is the complete engine (includes wiring harness, alternator and PS pump) but without air box or headers. Those parts are will be available separately.
Currently the secondary air ports are blocked off with factory blocking plates as the car runs in ROW trim. The removed air injection parts will be provided so it can be converted back to North American trim if desired. Engine will remain installed in car so it can be inspected in a running state if so desired.
Engine has LN engineering low temp thermostat and magnetic drain plug.
$10,000 + shipping and no core charge.

Sorry, not doing any installs.
The car is being parted simply due to the fact that it is worth more in pieces than it is as a whole.

Out of curiosity, did this sell, or is it still available?

Engine is no longer available. I've decided to not part out the car. It will sell complete or not at all.

Bravo Todd! Far too much TLC went into that build to do a part out. Now... do you think she would pass smog inspection in the communist republic of California??

My 2000 3.6 rebuild passes with much lower emissions than pre-rebuild so Todd's should pass easily in a 1999 chassis due to the much higher allowable emmisions.

Do you have any information on the chassis and what are you looking to get for the whole thing?

Well I just took the car for a run for the first time since October and even though it needs a good cleaning it made me remember how much fun it is to drive and how lovely a place the alcantara and leather interior is to be. I know I couldn't replace it with something as fun for twice the money I could reasonably get for it (this is why I originally considered parting out the car.)
So while everything is for sale at the right price, I am not actively trying to sell the car. Perhaps for father's day I will be given some free time to clean her up.
Here are a couple of pics of the filthy beast to try and make up for my wishy-washiness.
Todd

todd,
as a fair noob to the boxster world it appears that you are somewhat of a guru. do you have a link to any of the build of your 3.6? how does it compare to an s? as expensive as p-cars are to upgrade i am curious if the huge investment in an engine upgrade yields worthwhile results. for instance, i'm curious if you would say that the difference b/w your 3.6 and an s is the same or greater than that b/w a std box and an s. thanks. sorry for the thread highjack.

Brad, imagine a 987 Boxster Spyder with a proper roof and +50hp, but it looks just like any ol' Boxster to the untrained eye. A lot more car than a 986 Box S methinks.

i assume that the gains are significant. i guess i need to drive a 987 to see the difference b/w it and my 02 s. long term i am considering a raby build and at 320 it would be similar gains to the ruf. just wondering how significant the difference is to the sop dyno. i figured todd would be able to give some real world comparisons. if the difference is negligible or less than the difference b/w a std boxster and an s then i will reevaluate my long term plans.
