Not many updates to report. The car will get the front-end refreshed over the coming months and I aim to get it back on the road early April.

The differences between G87 and 0A2 are listed in my previous post. Besides that the taller gearing is obvious. I think all 0A2 units have the same gearing including final drive. I am yet to research which gears can be swapped between G87, 0A2 and 0A3 (the 4WD variant of the 0A2).

If you are coming from the Boxster S, there are some positives and negatives.
+ The 986 S wheel carriers can directly fit the 987 drive shafts.
- Doing that you will lose ABS unless you have the late model years with ABS 5.7 (I guess you would be able to swap the 987 bearings and ABS sensors in, but I don't have 986 S wheel carriers to verify)

Not sure on shift cable length of the 986S, but the 987 shift cables can be used. Good opportunity to also swap to 987 shifter which has less play. You can just grab a set of used cables.

Also you will need the 987 gearbox mounts. And if you drop in the 0A2 you need to sort out the cable setup (taking it from the G87 is easiest, bolts directly on). Also the reverse detent (stronger spring) is missing in the 0A2. You either need to take it from the G87 or need to bolt something onto the shifter bracket. Both will work.

Finally you'll need to interface the reverse light. Again I don't know about the G86/20, but coming from the G86/00 I just bought a connector to fit the gearbox and made an adapter cable from the reverse sensor wire of the G86/00. Very simple indeed.

So basically the G86/20 is a totally different unit. Most things swap across, especially in a late model car. Exhaust wise I guess you ran into similar issues as I did due to the length of the gearbox. I'll likely fit the sausage for now, but might directly drop in the 981 exhaust.

Let me know if you have specific questions.
