i eye balled it . its actually pretty easy to tell when you have it, Where the cylinder head meets the cover there is a seam.. if the seam is in the middle of the cutout for the end of the cam when you hit TDC for that side, you have it nuts on accurate!.

There are some really good write ups for this online.

i will tell you this .. if your car requires the left handed threaded rod and nuts to compress the tensioner, ,.. get them , it is absolutely the best way to do it and you can get them cheap from aliexpress and they come fast .

the biggest pain in the ass of the whole job is the damn ebrake cable always being in the way .. its always in the wrong spot lol..
