Thanks for the replies everyone. Coincidentally I picked up that version of timing kit from eBay too, Homeoboxter, because I'm changing the variocam pads. However I plan to do that job with the engine in the car and I'm concerned about clearance for getting the jig style timing tool on the head. I convinced myself this version is more compact than the other style that comes with the red knobs and will give me the best shot (we'll see). Having the blade style tool to time the engine during the variocam pad change would be nice since that obviously will fit with the engine in the car. I'm not super confident in my fabricating skills, but if it comes to that I suppose I could try and make it! To be honest I'm surprised that this tool isn't floating around for $30 or something somewhere on the internet.
