The cold start whine you are hearing is most likely your secondary air injection system, which only runs briefly on cold starts.

Use of the word "whine" for my issue is probably misleading. Whistle is the better term and it is pronounced and started well after reaching normal temperatures. And as I mentioned, just about any amount of throttle causes the noise to go away.
