How come my guidance counselor never suggested THAT as a job option.

Geez, I missed my calling, and doing that as a hobby gets you on a do not fly list now.

Interesting story to me at least:
My dad was a WWII German POW at a POW prison outside Fort Worth Texas (Mineral Springs) from 1942-45.
At the POW camp they gave the prisoners reading material, which were books issued to American soldiers as well.
Skip forward 30 years and I have this book about rockets and missles in my hands as a 15 year old, complete with formulations for various propellants and explosive mixtures.
When knowledge met with opportunity (Chemistry Class) I found myself doing extra credit work, without the teachers knowledge, as my friend and I made a batch of black powder and tested it in the fumes hood.
All went well and the black powder worked brilliantly but unfortunately a friend of my friend decided he wanted to try as well.
However he had the great idea that grinding all of the ingredients together in the mortar/pedstal was a good idea.
He found out inadvertently how to make a mortar as eventually did enough grinding to get ignition on the desk right in front of the teacher.
Burned his hand pretty severely unfortunately but fortunately he did not rat us out.

I made rockets with my ingredients as the FLQ in Canada had caused a ban of the Estee's rocket engines in the 70's

I still have that Book.
