I just change my coil packs, plugs, and tubes. I can vouch for having enough clearance for the bigger coils. There are no obstructions. That 996 thread doesn't apply to us. There was one bolt that you couldn't get a ratchet on, but that was the same for old coil. I just used my socket wrapped in some rubber from a nitrile glove and a small vice grip and that did the trick.
