3K miles post surgery is barely out of the woods territory.

The problem here is that you really have to be in love with the 986 to go along with a $35-38K engine upgrade, assuming the donor car (with apparent supsension and exhaust mods) is worth ~$10K sans engine.
And you REALLY have to be in love with a green/space gray car for $48K...
Yeah, I know quality engines can get expensive, but you are right - $35k+ for a new engine seems excessive...better have north of 400 ponies.

also, I didn't see anything about CA smog. He has plates on it. I don't know how he is getting away with that...
