All 97-99 base Boxster's came from the factory with solid rotors and drilled rotors were not offered as an option.

Aftermarket drilled rotors are perfectly fine and IMHO they look sportier and have a little better brake feel than their solid counterparts. The only downside is that drilled rotors can get small cracks and need replacement if driven very, very hard (like on a race track).
