The horsepower races have been over for quite awhile and anything over 400-450hp is useless on the street. Plus, how long does the battery last at full power? A big battery and an electric motor isn't anything special, its just a bigger Prius.
But then, I don't understand why the 918 doesn't simply have a 700hp V-8 either.
