You may have some recourse with the "mechanic" you went to. IIRC if the shop was AAA approved, I think that AAA has some sort of guarantee on the quality of work.. Check with AAA to find out
You should still get a PPI, just now it will be a Post Purchase Inspection.
Also be very wary of big red pickups, they like to kiss Boxsters in school parking lots
