Yep, this one was bottomed out on a rock (boulder) that cracked the pan and broke off a couple bolts. Yikes! We'll see if there is more damage after fixing this. I'll share more of the story after I find out how bad the damage is. Lost radiator hose too. How long can a motor run without oil and coolant. Not long, but how long? 10 seconds, 30, 60, 120? I know how long this motor was left running and that it was still running when turned off, but do not yet know how much damage was done.  |
I think a better question is "How much accelerated wear has happened while the engine was running overheated & low on oil?"
Cutting open the oil filter is the 1st step to check for wear metals & while the pan is off check the oil pump pickup. Other than that you have to disassemble the engine, so I would change the oil & filter & top off coolant with filtered water. Restart engine & see how it runs.
