Yes, all of the M96-based engines (2.5L, 2.7L, 3.2L, 3.4L, and 3.6L) use an intermediate shaft and are susceptible to a bearing failure. How susceptible is a matter of great debate.

The comparable years 996 Turbo and GT- cars used a different engine design and do not have this concern.
