Safety first, when working on fuel systems. Several years ago, I replaced the fuel filter in my wife's MB E320 -- it's in the tank. I waited for the fuel level to get close to zero before I opened the tank. Also used flashlights as I didn't want anything that could potentially spark.

As far as the tool goes, the MB tool was $85 so I would expect the Porsche one to be more -- I would try a belt wrench if I had to do the job.
